MSM: Being Gay more important than Benghazi

MSM: Being Gay more important than Benghazi

by Joe Keck Diane Sawyer of ABC hit the airways running with the news that Jason Collins, pro basketball star, is gay. It was her first mention among reporting on the Boston bombing and other newsworthy items. George Stephanopoulos, also of ABC, had a long interview with Collins about his homosexuality as well, a segment with the NBA player lasting more than five minutes. That's long interview in news time. USA Today, The Washington Post, The NY Times, The Huffington Post, just about every news outlet in the known universe thinks that someone making an admission that goes against the grain of what we would expect is big news. And I suppose it is a bit shocking that an Athlete on a major American sports team is gay, so, of course the Mainstream Media would cover it. Kind of like [...]

High Capacity Ignorance by Joe Keck

Apparently, James Holmes had received a government grant of $26,000 for his tuition. And, apparently, he used that money to purchase the weapons and ammunition for Aurora Colorado shooting, according to USA Today. So, of course all the Republicans and conservatives are banging the symbols and beating the drums braying that we should do something about those high capacity and dangerous Government grants. "People are being injured and killed with Government dollars!" the Right is saying. "No blood for research!" "Stop the proliferation of gun deaths from Federal cash flowing into the hands of killer students!" Oh, wait. They aren't. No conservatives are saying that. No Republican is calling for a reduction in college funds or a halt on student loans. Why? Because it's [...]

In 2009 Democrats Fought AGAINST "Millionaire Tax"

In 2009 Democrats Fought AGAINST "Millionaire Tax"

From the YID With LID Sometimes it is really amazing how quickly politicians flip-flop. Anybody who hasn't been on Mars or one of the outer planets during the past few weeks knows how the Congressional Democrats have been playing class warfare, setting up successful people as being selfish and not wanting to pay their "fair share" of Taxes. But back in 2009 it was a very different story.  During the Obamacare debate Nancy Pelosi was trying to legislate that Obamacare would be partially funded via a surtax on the "rich" ($250,000+ income). Democrats in both houses fought that suggestion "tooth and nail," and Pelosi's attempt was defeated. Back then Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) told USA Today “Still, the idea has been criticized by some Democrats. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said Tuesday that he [...]

Repent! The End of Keynesian Economics Is At Hand!

Repent! The End of Keynesian Economics Is At Hand!

I have been puzzled by the extent of the media coverage of some crank's prediction that the world would come to an end today. People are always predicting the end of the world. So far they have always been wrong. Was there something about this particular prediction that was newsworthy? Did any significant number of people expect to wake up this morning and see graves opening and people ascending into Heaven? This morning, there were news stories to the effect that the world still exists. Really! Did reporters expect their readers to be surprised? Why, in short, was this silliness a major media event? I wish reporters would pay as much attention to a more important failed prediction: the Obama administration's assurance that its policies, including the "stimulus," would [...]

Dems in power could be in peril, poll says

Dems in power could be in peril, poll says

from  Susan Page over at  USA TODAY WASHINGTON — Democratic congressional candidates face a political landscape even rockier than those in 1994 and 2006 that ended with election upheavals that changed control of Congress, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds. As the fall campaign begins in earnest over Labor Day weekend, dissatisfaction with the nation's direction is higher and support for the party in power lower than it was in those tumultuous midterms. This time, however, voters are more likely to say their vote reflects opposition to the party in power rather than support for the other side. Republicans are held in the same low regard as when the GOP lost control of Congress four years ago. That could create problems if they do score a net gain of 39 seats to control the House of [...]
