Supreme Court to hear challenge to Obama’s health-care overhaul
The Supreme Court of the United States has agreed to hear a challenge on whether the mandate that requires all Americans to have health insurance or pay a fine, which some call a tax, is constitutional. A decision could come as early as June 2012 right in the middle of the re-election campaign. 26 states have challenged the mandate under the Commerce clause. The Affordable Health Care Act is the mainstay of the Obama Administration and the Democratic Congress and Obama Administration spend their political capital on the passage of this act during the first year of the Administration. Political opponents of the Administration have been critical of the time spend on the passage of this act, when, they say, the time should have been spend on improving the economy and creating [...]
Perry Campaign goes Flat – Proposes 20 Percent Flat Tax
Steve Forbes is back, but now he has a southern draw. Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry unveiled a sweeping economic agenda Monday highlighted by a plan to level a voluntary 20 percent “flat tax” on all taxpayers who will accept it in place of what they’re paying now. The plan, outlined in a Wall Street Journal op-ed column a day before the Texas governor was set to unveil it in South Carolina, also calls for capping federal spending at 18 percent of the country’s GDP while allowing younger earners to privatize their Social Security accounts. Taxpayers who don’t want to pay a 20 percent flat income tax, he said, can keep their current rate. Perry offers several proposals that appear designed to sweeten the offer – and to counter criticism that the flat tax is [...]
Perry to Proposes a National Flat Tax "So simple that even Timothy Geithner can file his taxes on time"
A revised version of this article appears here. Gov. Rick Perry of Texas said Wednesday that he would propose a flat tax next week as part of a tax overhaul program, signaling a new effort to separate himself from Mitt Romney and the rest of the Republican field. Mr. Perry signaled his intent in a speech to Republicans on Wednesday morning after Tuesday night’s brawl of a Republican debate. He has in the past suggested support for some form of a flat tax, but has backed off from endorsing one. Mr. Perry recently recruited as an adviser Steve Forbes, who ran for president in 1996 on a pledge of implementing a single flat tax on income, without any deductions. Mr. Perry did not offer details of how his plan would work. He said he wanted to scrap “the three million words of the [...]
Democrats want Revisions to Obama Jobs Bill With a Tax on Millionaires – So forget "pass this bill right away"
By the Way President Obama has been talking, you would have thought that it was Congressman Eric Cantor and the Republicans that were obstructing the Jobs Bill called the American Jobs Act. Obama also said the bill was paid for and would not cost Americans any money until 2013. Today we learned that Democrats don't like the bill in it's current form and want to pass a 5% tax on Millionaires this year. So Obama, being in full campaign mode, has not been telling America the truth. Lets call it what it is, the American Jobs act is an unpopular bill, not paid for, and the GOP are not the obstructionists. This is the Man who gave you Hope and Change but now wants you to give him an extension on his three year proposition that said, he would have the economy turned around or he would be a [...]
In 2009 Democrats Fought AGAINST "Millionaire Tax"
From the YID With LID Sometimes it is really amazing how quickly politicians flip-flop. Anybody who hasn't been on Mars or one of the outer planets during the past few weeks knows how the Congressional Democrats have been playing class warfare, setting up successful people as being selfish and not wanting to pay their "fair share" of Taxes. But back in 2009 it was a very different story. During the Obamacare debate Nancy Pelosi was trying to legislate that Obamacare would be partially funded via a surtax on the "rich" ($250,000+ income). Democrats in both houses fought that suggestion "tooth and nail," and Pelosi's attempt was defeated. Back then Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) told USA Today “Still, the idea has been criticized by some Democrats. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said Tuesday that he [...]
Democrat "super committee" wants tax hikes first in deficit talks.
It's an Old Democrat trick.. Show us you are sincere and raise taxes first and then we will Cut spending. Ronald Reagan fell for this as a Democratic Congress asked him to sign tax hikes under the promise that the Democrats would send spending cuts to his desk at a later date. Reagan never saw those Tax cuts. I submit that the GOP will never see real cuts from the Democrats either. (Reuters) - Democrats want tax hikes to be the first item negotiated in "super committee" deficit-reduction talks, trying to force Republicans to confront an issue at the heart of this year's budget fights, sources told Reuters. The tough stance by Democratic members of the powerful 12-member congressional panel reflects the party's wariness that Republicans might try to sideline the issue of revenue [...]
The Folly of "Taxing the Rich" – YouTube
A new report, "The Folly of 'Taxing the Rich'," from U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) reveals that President Obama's proposed $1.5 trillion tax hike on "the rich" would punish the middle class by destroying the jobs they depend on. Some important findings include: • Nearly 40% of increased tax revenues from raising the top rates would come from small businesses. • The President's new taxes could threaten to destroy up to 1.2 million jobs per year and would cost small businesses $74 billion annually. • Squeezing the rich doesn't work. Despite marginal tax rates as high as 90% and as low as 28%, federal tax revenues have remained fairly constant around 18% of GDP. • America has the most progressive tax system. The top 10% of households pay 45% of all U.S. taxes, a [...]
