2012 Presidential Matchups – Cain Trails Obama by Only 5 Points
Herman Cain did well in last week’s GOP debate and won a decisive straw poll victory in Florida, but his numbers in a general election match-up against President Obama are little changed. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds that Obama earns 39% support while Cain attracts 34%. In that match-up, 14% prefer some other candidate, and 14% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.) A month ago, the president led Cain by seven percentage points. In March Obama held an 18 point advantage over the businessman and talk show host. Data released earlier today shows that voters nationwide are evenly divided as to whether or not Cain is qualified to be president — 30% say yes, 33% no, and 37% are not sure. Republicans, by a 49% [...]
Herman Cain Wins Florida GOP Straw Poll
Businessman Herman Cain won the Florida straw poll Saturday, beating Texas Gov. Rick Perry, the GOP presidential frontrunner who just two days earlier delivered a debate performance that was widely panned. Cain finished with 37 percent of the vote, while Perry trailed with 15 percent. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney followed with 14 percent while former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum drew 11 percent. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul finished with 10.5 percent, while former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman finished with 2 percent. U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, who won the Iowa straw poll in August, finished with just 1 percent of the vote. "Thank you to the Republican voters for this incredible honor of being named the winner of the Presidency 5 straw poll in Florida today," Cain said in a statement after the [...]

What America will miss at the Orlando GOP debate – McCotter goes three layers deep on the issues and political wow factor
By Albert N. Milliron We have received a release that says former Governor Gary Johnson will be included in the Debate in Orlando on September 22nd. Fox News says he has met the criteria of 1 percentage point in the five national polls prior to the debate. One problem, there is another candidate who has done just as well. This candidate also rated Below Newt Gingrich and Tied Rick Santorum in the California straw poll. That candidate is Michigan Congressman Thad McCotter. Gary Johnson came in tenth in that poll. Here is another issue, some of the polling organizations are not even including McCotter in their polls at all. So it is impossible for McCotter to meet the one percent criteria because he isn't being included. The last poll we looked at, The USA Today/Gallup [...]

Ames Straw Poll Pundit Predictions
Update: Ames Iowa Straw Poll Results, Saturday, August 13, 2011 Predictions on Ames Ames, Iowa -- The polls just closed and the results aren't in yet, but no hedging is necessary: Michele Bachmann is going to win the Ames Straw Poll. The lines into her tent have been long all day, and they've had to buy more tickets to hand out at least twice. As for the rest of the field: If I had to guess I'd say Ron Paul comes in second. From eyeballing the crowd it looks like there are as many Pawlenty supporters as Paul supporters -- the former stand out because the Pawlenty campaign has been handing out green t-shirts -- but the Paul supporters are so much more intense in their commitment to their man. Pawlenty's support is soft enough that, given a random green-shirted man here, I wouldn't [...]
