By Kevin Williams KW: As far as the diversity of attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference, how can this Conference help inform Conservatives about the [...]

Remembering C. Everett Koop
A type of honesty that is too often in short supply By Laura Lorenzo - Op-Ed C. Everett Koop was nominated for Surgeon General in 1982. I was a NOW-member, at the time. What we knew was that he opposed abortion, and was associated with Francis Schaeffer. That put him on the fringe, or so we thought. Many letters and phone calls later, he was appointed. Then, as now, interest groups like to harrumph over appointments, whether there's a chance of defeating them or not. About Mr Koop, liberals were as wrong as ever. While he remained pro-life, he held it as a moral issue, and would not adopt the notion that abortion was psychologically harmful to women. This was certainly not pleasing to the Reagan Administration. He also took a more humane view about AIDS than what existed [...]
The New Yorker Magazine Performs A Disservice For The American People
The New Yorker magazine still compares the 44th Presidency with the 43rd Presidency - President Obama needs to be able to be compared with his record. President George W. Bush and President-elect Barack Obama meet in the Oval Office of the White House Monday, November 10, 2008. (Photo credit: Wikipedia) By: Edmund Jenks - West Coast Editor THE NEW YORKER ENDORSES OBAMA in a four-page editorial, "The Choice," by "The Editors," taking up the full "The Talk of the Town" space: "Obama ... did not always prove particularly adept at, or engaged by, the arts of retail persuasion, and his dream of bipartisanship collided with the reality of obstructionism. Perhaps inevitably, the President has disappointed some of his most ardent supporters. Part of their disappointment is a reflection [...]
“There you go again”- By Joe Keck
Those were the words challenger Ronald Reagan said to incumbent Jimmy Carter in the 1980 presidential debate. But today, he might very well have used those same words for his own party. Last time around, John McCain was the Republican presidential candidate. Not exactly Reagan. Now admittedly, Obama caused such a hullabaloo in the election that it seemed as though fate had a hand in the outcome. But still, for the GOP to run McCain was, in the minds of many, unbelievable. John McCain? Are you kidding me? Not only is he at best radically moderate, he's also radically flavorless. There's no meat in that burrito, no cake under that thin, basted on layer of icing. It harkens back to the same lack-luster Bob Dole running against Bill Clinton. When Dole won the nomination, the base of [...]

Reagan’s Rule for Conservatives Still Golden in 2012 Primaries
It’s called the “The Eleventh Commandment,” and it was popularized by former President Ronald Reagan. The commandment states, “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.” As the 2012 Republican primary season nears its boiling point, some conservatives are concerned poisonous rhetoric among candidates is alienating middle-of-the-road voters. "You have to move the mushy middle,” says Craig Copland, author of 2012 Conservative Election Handbook (www.conservawiki.com), a guide to winning campaigns at any level. He contends it is always better to elect a “soft conservative” over a “soft liberal.” Those are two categories of voters, along with independents, rounding out the “mushy middle.” With more than 600,000 elected offices at stake throughout the [...]

Video of Newt Bashing Reagan is Bogus
Video of Newt Bashing Reagan is Bogus Riehl World View There's a short excerpt of a 1988 C-SPAN video purportedly showing Newt Gingrich bashing Reagan when talking about how Bush, Sr. should run. As I suspected, it's edited to give a false impression. What you don't see is immediately after when Gingrich praises Reaganism and the Reagan platform. If you can't watch it all, it begins at about 2:30 in to confirm it's the same segment. It's the minute or two afterward you also need to hear to understand that Newt wasn't bashing Reagan at all. He was merely saying, Bush isn't Reagan and the GOP needs something new to sell. He even points out the Reagan landslide, saying Reagan's platform won 48, or whatever states and was inclusive. Here is the full C-SPAN video.
