42 Shows Us The Greatness That Is Jackie Robinson (… Republican?)

42 Shows Us The Greatness That Is Jackie Robinson (… Republican?)

By Kevin Williams Starting today, probably the biggest baseball story of the last century is being re-told in your local movie theater… via a little baseball film simply called 42.  What does a baseball film have to do with Politisite, you might say?  A lot actually. Jackie Robinson, the amazing wall-breaker of Major League Baseball is a man who many don’t know much about - except for what he did at the ripe age of 28.  That is not to minimize anything that Jackie Robinson did during that momentous baseball season of 1947 and the tumult he, his teammates and his Brooklyn Dodgers General Manager Branch Rickey went through.  I make this point to highlight the fact that it would seem that his life began and ended in one baseball season.  Well, it didn’t. Jackie Robinson, [...]

ARGO Reminds Us of How It All Began

ARGO Reminds Us of How It All Began

By Kevin Williams  The Ben Affleck-directed film ARGO opens today and after seeing it, I am compelled to tell you dear reader that you should see this film and bring as many of your friends as possible.  As a film-goer, as a filmmaker and as a Politics & History buff – this is the best film of the year in my humble opinion.  Artistically and as serious entertainment, ARGO delivers the goods in spades. As an 11 year-old, I remember the start of the Iran Hostage Crisis quite clearly.  From the first images of our fellow Americans’ bandaged-covered heads to Ayatollah Khomeini’s frightening image to the growing impotence of our Government to Ted Koppel saying, “Day XXX of the Crisis in Iran.  This is NIGHTLINE.”  I remember the hundreds and thousands of American [...]

Supreme Court Orders Health Care Contraceptive Mandate to be Reviewed

The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals to examine the constitutionality of the health care reform law’s employer requirements and mandatory coverage of contraceptives without a co-pay. The move could open the door for President Barack Obama’s health law to be back in front of the Supreme Court late next year. But legal experts say there’s no guarantee that the justices would actually take the case — or that they’d strike down those pieces of the law if they did.   Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1112/84226.html#ixzz2DMauZMA4 The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals to examine the constitutionality of the health care reform law’s employer requirements and mandatory coverage of [...]

MSNBC's Programming Double Down – Up With Chris Hayes, Weekends

MSNBC's Programming Double Down – Up With Chris Hayes, Weekends

By Edmund Jenks Here, at MAXINE, we are prone to fall asleep with the TV on. It is a habit groomed from a life with frequent travel and a desire to keep up with information that might be developing during the night ... if we happen to wake up. In the early ninties we had live reports from Gulf War I on CNN. The growth of Cable TV and Gulf War II just cemented this habit not to mention that once this process was embraced, every hotel room around the world was comfortable with the same type of background noise as a home bedroom no matter the outside ambient difference. This morning, however, was a little different - Oh, to be rudely woken up to the sound of the voice of new TV opinion show host, Chris Hayes - a self-described Communitarian & Egalitarian ... read this as 60's radical [...]

No American is allowed to own more than one business. All employers must pay wages dictated by the government and must provide jobs for those who need them. Unfair competition is outlawed, ensuring that every person who wants to be in business can have an equal share of the work available. The Bureau of Economic Planning and National Resources can announce new taxes on more profitable businesses and states at any time to “even out” opportunities for poorer states and less successful companies. This is the economic scene that unfolds in the new movie Atlas Shrugged: Part I—and if it sounds like the dream of many on the left in Washington today, that’s no coincidence. “Ayn Rand always said the novel takes place the day after tomorrow,” producer John Aglialoro told The [...]
