Chorus of Democrats Deny Government Spending is a Problem

Chorus of Democrats Deny Government Spending is a Problem

A Growing Chorus Of Democrats Refuse To Acknowledge The Fact That The U.S. Government Has A Grave Spending Problem, Calling Instead For More Taxes LEADING DEMOCRATS DENY A SPENDING PROBLEM EXISTS In A Senate Appropriations Hearing, Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) Said “No,” The Nation Does Not Have A Spending Problem. SEN. TOM HARKIN (D-IA): “Thank you, Madam Chair. I think, first of all, I want to disagree with those who say we have a spending problem. Everyone keeps saying we have a spending problem. And when they talk about that, it’s like there’s an assumption that somehow we as a nation are broke. We can't afford these things any longer. We’re too broke to invest in education and housing and things like that. Well look at it this way, we’re the richest nation in the [...]

Senate Fiscal Cliff Bill Is $600 Billion Tax Hike, Increases spending by $330 billion

Senate Fiscal Cliff Bill Is $600 Billion Tax Hike, Increases spending by $330 billion

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) just now released its score of the bill the Senate passed early this morning while everyone was celebrating the beginning of the New Year. Despite knowing for a long time that taxes would go up on all Americans today, the Senate waited until we technically went over the cliff to act. Washington’s dysfunction was even fodder for New Year’s revelers in Times Square. Going over the cliff allows Congress to technically say that it isn’t raising taxes, but is cutting them instead. CBO’s score backs them up on this by scoring the Senate bill as a $3.6 trillion tax cut. No one should fall this. The Senate bill is a tax hike because it allows taxes to go up from 2012 to 2013. The tax increases in the bill will reportedly raise about $600 billion [...]

41:1 Ratio of Revenue to Cuts – Obama Claims Victory

41:1 Ratio of Revenue to Cuts – Obama Claims Victory

The White House claims victory in the Fiscal Cliff Aversion deal.  Obama said that he would agree to  $2.50 dollars of Cuts for every dollar of Revenue.  This was his Balanced Approach.  When it was all said and done and the CBO scoring returned, Democrats gained forty-one (41) dollars of revenue for every one (1) dollar in cuts. Republicans are like Charlie Brown and Democrats are like Lucy It is the Democratic promise of old, "give us the revenue and we will give you the cuts later."  Reagan Fell for it as did George Bush.  The Republicans are like Charlie Brown believing that Lucy will finally allow him to kick that football.  It will never happen This is the White House Fact Sheet released today Fact Sheet: The Tax Agreement: A Victory for Middle-Class Families [...]

Transcript of President Obama’s remarks on fiscal cliff, economy

REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT East Room   1:08 P.M. EST     THE PRESIDENT:  Thank you.  (Applause.)  Thank you so much. (Applause.)  Thank you very much, everybody.  Everybody, please have a seat.  (Applause.)   Well, good afternoon, everybody.  Now that those of us on the campaign trail have had a chance to get a little sleep -- (laughter) -- it’s time to get back to work.  And there is plenty of work to do.   As I said on Tuesday night, the American people voted for action, not politics as usual.  You elected us to focus on your jobs, not ours.  And in that spirit, I’ve invited leaders of both parties to the White House next week, so we can start to build consensus around the challenges that we can only solve together. And I [...]

Fact: Revenue increased by $785B following Bush Tax Cuts

Fact: Revenue increased by $785B following Bush Tax Cuts

Via Byron York Over an over again the mantra is "we don't have a revenue problem in Washington, We have a spending problem".  Despite more money going out than coming in the Democrats want to squeeze more money out of the Rich to develop or fund programs.  These programs should be dealt with from the local level where people can see the actual problems close up.  DC continues to think they know better. Judging by the pundits and the talking heads, Republicans have already lost the message war over the debt ceiling. Conventional wisdom portrays them as intransigent, refusing Democratic offers of huge spending cuts in exchange for modest tax -- or "revenue" -- increases. When Reps. John Boehner, Eric Cantor and their colleagues go to the White House, President Obama is "the adult in the [...]

NPR expects to Make Money in 2011

NPR expects to Make Money in 2011

For more than two decades, public-radio listeners have grown accustomed to the erudite questioning style of Fresh Air host Terry Gross. What many people don't realize is that the program is profitable, although its unclear how much of a windfall it makes for WHYY, the Philadelphia NPR affiliate that broadcasts the show. "WHYY covered the production costs of Fresh Air for many years. (The program began in the mid-1970s and became a daily NPR show in 1987)," WHYY spokesman Brian Rossiter writes in an email. "In the past few years, as the program's carriage and underwriting increased, WHYY has seen a return on investment. Due to contractual obligations, I can't discuss exact figures on the program's costs and revenues." Fresh Air, which airs on more than 500 stations, attracts more [...]

IRS gets a 1.1 Billion boost in Obama Budget why?

IRS gets a 1.1 Billion boost in Obama Budget why?

Seems like the White House is emphasizing two different angles on the 1.1 Billion increase for the Internal Revenue Service in Obama’s Budget.  To Reporters the increase is to  answer questions and provide quality information to taxpayers.  But on the IRS website they emphasize that  the funds will actually decrease the deficit by increasing enforcement and collections.  Additionally, they highlight a program to police the Tax Preparer industry by checking out ethical standards and compliance issues. First lets look at what the press is reporting ABC News’ Jonathan Karl reports (Bold is ours) Student loans take a hit.  So does the program that helps the poor pay for home heating oil.  But not the Internal Revenue Service. The President’s budget has winners [...]

Oregon example of Higher Taxes not increasing Revenue

Oregon example of Higher Taxes not increasing Revenue

Check out this story by Jeff Dunetz over at The LID The progressives are still tied up in their underwear trying to bash the deal between the POTUS and the GOP  delaying tax increases for  households making over $250,000 a year. Some are even saying that the move to delay the tax increases was somehow immoral. Obviously that is typical progressive idiocy.  In an editorial today the WSJ explained not only is it moral, but they show how a recent tax increase for people over $250,000 executed in Oregon led to lower tax revenues. Last year the Oregon raised the tax rate to 10.8% on joint-filer income of between $250,000 and $500,000, and to 11% on income above $500,000. Instead of $180 million collected last year from the new tax, the state received $130 million. The [...]
