Is your Congressmen worth $107,000 a year after they retire?
After retiring from a 36-year career in the U.S. House of Representatives last month, Norm Dicks has no doubt that he’s worth every penny of his new pension: It will allow the Washington state Democrat to cash a monthly check from the U.S. government for $7,365.82. That’s the net pay on his gross annual pension of $107,268, or $8,939 per month. “I think I did a good job for the people in the state of Washington, you know. I think that this is fair, I really do,” Dicks, 72, said in an interview. Dicks, who’s now working as a consultant with defense companies, is among a handful of departing members of Congress who are eligible for six-figure pensions in the first year of retirement. If he lives long enough, his pension could exceed his congressional salary of $174,000 in [...]
Alec Baldwin Racist or just Drawn that Way
By Laura Lorenzo, Guest Op-Ed For the better part of today, I have seen comments about Alec Baldwin, the bane of all conservatives, or at least those who get their banes from Sean Hannity. He, apparently, called someone a "coon", because he's such a horrible person. Of course, that term was passe when Archie Bunker used it, which I recall thinking at the time. I didn't bother with the New York Post article, because it was the usual gossip, whose subject was neatly communicated in a single tweet. To read the article would be to indulge in the evident "misfortune" of Mr Baldwin, about whom few should have much care in the first place. The Racist Rant that didn't happen - Media Credit: The NY Post. Later in the day we discover, via TMZ, that he didn't say it. Now, I have not [...]
Chorus of Democrats Deny Government Spending is a Problem
A Growing Chorus Of Democrats Refuse To Acknowledge The Fact That The U.S. Government Has A Grave Spending Problem, Calling Instead For More Taxes LEADING DEMOCRATS DENY A SPENDING PROBLEM EXISTS In A Senate Appropriations Hearing, Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) Said “No,” The Nation Does Not Have A Spending Problem. SEN. TOM HARKIN (D-IA): “Thank you, Madam Chair. I think, first of all, I want to disagree with those who say we have a spending problem. Everyone keeps saying we have a spending problem. And when they talk about that, it’s like there’s an assumption that somehow we as a nation are broke. We can't afford these things any longer. We’re too broke to invest in education and housing and things like that. Well look at it this way, we’re the richest nation in the [...]
The 10 most Interesting States in Politics – Number 1 South Carolina, now pass the Sweet Tea!
https://twitter.com/Politisite/status/289110794841513984 1. South Carolina (courtesy of AmandaSC): “Andrew Jackson. John C. Calhoun. Civil War. Fort Sumter. Confederate Flag. Ben Tillman. Strom Thurmond. Lee Atwater. First in the South. McCain vs. Bush. Lindsey Graham. Fritz Hollings. Charleston. Stephen Colbert. Appalachian Trail. Andre Bauer. Mark Sanford. Jenny Sanford. Nikki Haley. Tim Scott. Jim DeMint. Alvin Greene. “Clearly South Carolina is the most interesting and has been for years. Where else can a person like Alvin Greene be connected by ‘six degrees of separation’ from statesmen like Andrew Jackson and John C. Calhoun, all by using relevant political persons/hot issues of the past 30 years? That’s right: Nowhere. “After all, the quote that has been true [...]

Senator Tim Scott Could Change The Republican Party
by Kevin Williams Politisite readers are already aware that a new U.S. Senator recently took office, but unfortunately most of the United States citizenry is not. In case you don’t know, the new Senator is Tim Scott (R-SC) and he was appointed by his home-state Republican Governor Nikki Haley to replace Senator Jim DeMint in the U.S. Senate. In case you do not know, Senator Scott is African American (or Black if you prefer) and this is characteristic is very important as it will make his legislating career a fascinating one to follow. To add to Mr. Scott’s uniqueness, he is the first person of color to serve South Carolina as a Senator and more importantly will be the first Black Republican Senator since Edward W. Brooke (R-MA) left nearly thirty-five years ago. Granted, [...]

Where does the Administration Stand?
As President Obama and his cabinet are wrapping up their first presidential term, I have found that the president and those who work for him are giant contradictions in and of themselves. Throughout his Presidency he has praised the Muslim faith, all the while speaking Christian praises when convenient. Obama has been quoted saying “The future must not belong to those who slander the Prophet of Islam”. As well, the President has accepted and not criticized the Muslim Brotherhood and has recalled how lovely the Islamic call to prayer is. Of course the President has never spoke of how beautiful the notion of Christ is or how proud he is that America is a predominantly Christian nation. However, when there are national tragedies such as a public shooting massacre or a 9/11 [...]
Senate Forces Military to use $27 per Gallon Biofuel
Eleven Republicans vote with most Democrats to impose “green energy” mandate Move over $800 toilet seats. Instead of letting our fighting men and women fill up on fuel at the prices that you pay at the pump, the U.S. Senate has just voted to force the military to pay $27 per gallon on ultra-pricey biofuels that nobody else wants. Read all about it from the Institute for Energy Research. The real crime in this is that eleven Republicans joined most Democrats in the 62-37 vote. My son just enlisted in the Army today. I’d suggest that he and his fellow soldiers are a better place to invest than paying 10x more than necessary for fuel. Geithner: Blame Republicans if we go off the Fiscal Cliff
Geithner has been using official Government Resources to promote partisan speech. He is using the US Treasuries official Twitter account to send nearly 32 tweets blaming the GOP for a potential fall off the Fiscal Cliff (e.g. @USTreasury Sec Geithner @FoxNewsSunday: Only reason we'd go off the fiscal cliff is if Rs “want to extend tax rates for the rich that we cant afford” ) Maybe it's time to light up their switch board with complaints (202) 622-2000 U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner said Republicans in Congress will be to blame for hurting the economy if they refuse to raise tax rates on the highest-income earners as part of a deal to avert the so-called fiscal cliff. “There’s not going to be an agreement without rates going up,” Geithner [...]
