Alec Baldwin Racist or just Drawn that Way
By Laura Lorenzo, Guest Op-Ed For the better part of today, I have seen comments about Alec Baldwin, the bane of all conservatives, or at least those who get their banes from Sean Hannity. He, apparently, called someone a "coon", because he's such a horrible person. Of course, that term was passe when Archie Bunker used it, which I recall thinking at the time. I didn't bother with the New York Post article, because it was the usual gossip, whose subject was neatly communicated in a single tweet. To read the article would be to indulge in the evident "misfortune" of Mr Baldwin, about whom few should have much care in the first place. The Racist Rant that didn't happen - Media Credit: The NY Post. Later in the day we discover, via TMZ, that he didn't say it. Now, I have not [...]
Charlie Crist to speak at Democrat Convention
Former Florida Republican Governor Charlie Crist will be speaking at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC Next Week. Crist made headlines earlier as he endorsed President Obama for a second term via an Op-Ed in the Tampa Bay Times. Former Republican Governor to speak at the DNC Convention, Artur Davis a former Obama Donor will be speaking at the RNC Convention We are reminded of former Georgia Democratic Governor Zell Miller, speaking at the 2004 Republican Convention to endorse George Bush after concerns over National Security. The Democrat party launched Republicans for Obama along with a video but the campaign ad came under scrutiny when it was learned that one of the women who appeared in the video is a registered Democrat. The Obama campaign wanted to [...]
Op-ed by President Obama: President Obama Reflects on the Impact of Title IX
The full text of the op-ed by President Barack Obama is printed below. The piece was published today in Newsweek. President Obama Reflects on the Impact of Title IX By President Obama Coaching my daughter Sasha’s basketball team is one of those times when I just get to be “Dad.” I snag rebounds, run drills, and have a little fun. More importantly, I get to watch Sasha and her teammates improve together, start thinking like a team, and develop self-confidence. Any parent knows there are few things more fulfilling than watching your child discover a passion for something. And as a parent, you’ll do anything to make sure he or she grows up believing she can take that ambition as far as she wants; that your child will embrace that quintessentially American [...]
Wingless, Bloodsucking and Parasitic: Meet the Flea Party!
Op-Ed by Ann Coulter So far, the only major accomplishment of the "Occupy Wall Street" protesters is that it has finally put an end to their previous initiative, "Occupy Our Mothers' Basements." Oddly enough for such a respectable-looking group -- a mixture of adolescents looking for a cause, public sector union members, drug dealers, criminals, teenage runaways, people who have been at every protest since the Berkeley Free Speech Movement, people 95 percent of whose hair is concentrated in their ponytails, Andrea Dworkin look-alikes and other average Democrats -- they can't even explain what they're protesting. The protesters either treat inquiries about their purpose as a trick question, or -- worse -- instantly rattle off a series of insane causes: "No. 1, abolish capitalism; No. [...]
Obama Joint Op-ed – Libya’s Pathway to Peace
Together with our NATO allies and coalition partners, the United States, France and Britain have been united from the start in responding to the crisis in Libya, and we are united on what needs to happen in order to end it. Even as we continue our military operations today to protect civilians in Libya, we are determined to look to the future. We are convinced that better times lie ahead for the people of Libya, and a pathway can be forged to achieve just that. We must never forget the reasons why the international community was obliged to act in the first place. As Libya descended into chaos with Colonel Muammar el-Qaddafi attacking his own people, the Arab League called for action. The Libyan opposition called for help. And the people of Libya looked to the world in their hour of [...]
Op-Ed Governor Scott Walker: Why I’m Fighting in Wisconsin
This article will appear in the Wall Street Journal Thursday, March 10th, 2011 By SCOTT WALKER In 2010, Megan Sampson was named an Outstanding First Year Teacher in Wisconsin. A week later, she got a layoff notice from the Milwaukee Public Schools. Why would one of the best new teachers in the state be one of the first let go? Because her collective-bargaining contract requires staffing decisions to be made based on seniority. Ms. Sampson got a layoff notice because the union leadership would not accept reasonable changes to their contract. Instead, they hid behind a collective-bargaining agreement that costs the taxpayers $101,091 per year for each teacher, protects a 0% contribution for health-insurance premiums, and forces schools to hire and fire based on seniority and [...]
Lanny Davis Op-Ed: Defends Rangel, made “honest” Mistakes
At one point I served as an attorney for Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.). So I am only going to stick to published facts in this column. Recently, a very good friend of mine who is the host of a cable TV show expressed no interest in my reviewing these undisputed, published facts because, he said, Rangel is a “tax cheat,” and what more is there to say? So let’s start with that as an example of someone — a good person who believes in due process — who has been misinformed and is not aware of the facts, and thus reached an erroneous conclusion about Rangel. Fact: Involving the matter before the House ethics committee, there is no evidence whatsoever that Rangel intentionally did not pay his income taxes. As we know from the initial reports in The New York Times, Rangel [...]
To Be Fair: Why We Need Health Care Reform by Barack Obama
First, if you don’t have health insurance, you will have a choice of high-quality, affordable coverage for yourself and your family — coverage that will stay with you whether you move, change your job or lose your job. Second, reform will finally bring skyrocketing health care costs under control, which will mean real savings for families, businesses and our government. We’ll cut hundreds of billions of dollars in waste and inefficiency in federal health programs like Medicare and Medicaid and in unwarranted subsidies to insurance companies that do nothing to improve care and everything to improve their profits. Third, by making Medicare more efficient, we’ll be able to ensure that more tax dollars go directly to caring for seniors instead of enriching insurance companies. This [...]
