Fact Check: Obama, “The United States has two percent of the worlds oil reserves”

Fact Check: Obama, “The United States has two percent of the worlds oil reserves”

Today, President Obama repeated the Left-wing Mantra that the "United States has only two percent of the worlds Oil reserves but uses Twenty Percent".  He repeated this statement for emphasis trying to negate that the United States has any control over oil prices.  The problem is that He is repeating leftest propaganda and using misleading information.  With most, DC Bubble communication techniques, there is some truth to his statement.  It is true that at the current level or production, which he has control over, America uses over twenty percent of oil in production.  It is also true that our current level of production with existing oil wells, that  we are producing two percent of the current oil. It is further true that the current wells are providing less and less oil each [...]

Rejecting the Keystone pipeline is an act of insanity

Rejecting the Keystone pipeline is an act of insanity

By Robert J. Samuelson, Published: January 19 President Obama’s rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico is an act of national insanity. It isn’t often that a president makes a decision that has no redeeming virtues and — beyond the symbolism — won’t even advance the goals of the groups that demanded it. All it tells us is that Obama is so obsessed with his reelection that, through some sort of political calculus, he believes that placating his environmental supporters will improve his chances. Aside from the political and public relations victory, environmentalists won’t get much. Stopping the pipeline won’t halt the development of tar sands, to fast payday loans which the Canadian government cialis daily use vs viagra is committed; [...]

While Environmentalists Quarrel over Two Pipelines – There is increasing Concern Over Oil Supply

While Environmentalists Quarrel over Two Pipelines – There is increasing Concern Over Oil Supply

There has been an increasing push by environmental groups to shut down two Canadian pipelines that would deliver oil to the West Coast (Northen Gateway Pipeline) and one that would deliver oil to refineries in Texas (Keystone XL).  The whole effort is a disguised attempt to shut down the Alberta Oil Sands.  Meanwhile the world is looking for ways to replace oil presently purchased from Iran.   Despite an embargo on Iranian oil, there has been an extension for six months, while Europe and Asia look for alternate supplies. Iran's oil revenues were $73 Billion in 2010 and those revenues are believed to support 50% of Iran's overall budget, according to the Energy Department.  Japan imported 110,000 barrels a day from Iran during the first six months of 2011, while China imported [...]

Iran, The Strait of Hormuz and the Politics of Oil

Iran, The Strait of Hormuz and the Politics of Oil

Iran  warned yesterday that it would shut down the Strait of Hormuz if stiffer sanctions were placed against it.  The US and its allies believe that Iran is developing a nuclear weapon,  a charge that is being denied by Iran.  Congress has recently passed a bill in both  chambers requiring that sanctions be placed on Iran's Central Bank.  Closing down the Strait of Hormuz would stifle world trade and the supply of oil,  since 40% of the world's tanker-borne oil passes through it. The European Union has also left the door open to tougher sanctions, which could include an embargo on Iranian oil.  Iran is the 5th largest exporter of crude.  Arab States have said that they are prepared to ramp up their production to take up the void left by removing Iranian oil from the global [...]

Keystone Cop-Out

Keystone Cop-Out

President Obama used to be fond of "shovel-ready projects." He's also demanding that Congress pass his jobs bill immediately because 9% unemployment is a crisis, and, by the way, he's for making the U.S. less reliant on energy from tyrants. So how about putting 20,000 Americans to work on a North American energy project that's as shovel-ready as they come? Sorry, Mr. Obama is voting present. via Review & Outlook: Keystone Cop-Out - WSJ.com. Harry Reid on the XL Keystone Pipeline – Renewables Wiser

Harry Reid on the XL Keystone Pipeline – Renewables Wiser

Playing to his left base and trying to influence the State Departments decision on the XL Keystone pipeline, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reed blasted the XL Keystone Pipeline as carrying dirty oil and stated that it would be wiser to invest in renewable energy. “The proponents of this pipeline would be wiser to invest instead in job-creating clean energy projects, like renewable power, energy efficiency or advanced vehicles and fuels that would employ thousands of people in the United States rather than increasing our dependency on unsustainable supplies of dirty and polluting oil that could easily be exported.” This is the first time Harry Reid weighed into this project.  This is the same Harry Reid that said that private sector jobs are doing just fine and that it was government [...]

Will the Decision on the XL Keystone Pipeline be Ideological?

Will the Decision on the XL Keystone Pipeline be Ideological?

By Karl Gotthardt Canadian and Military Editor After weeks of protests, including Hollywood celebrities, on the White House Lawn and by the Council of Canadians on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the State Department held its final hearing on the pipeline on Friday.   The State Departments own assessment determined that the environmental impact would be minimal.   This calls into question whether the decision on the pipeline, which will carry crude oil from the Alberta Oil Sands to Texas, will be based on fact or ideology? While President Obama keeps touting green energy projects and wants to invest billion into the effort, it is clear that fossil fuel will continue to be with us for dozens of years to come.  At present there is no viable alternative.   Then the question has to be, do [...]

Poof! Market drops 515 points as Debt deal allows worried investors to buy safer U.S. Treasury Bills

Poof! There goes any progress stocks made in 2011. So what are investors buying?  Treasury Bills!  Looks like investors where just waiting on the sidelines hoping for a Debt Deal in the United States.  So the Democrats where wrong again.  Democrats blamed the GOP that markets were dropping because they were slow on making a debt deal. Stocks plunged Thursday, with the Dow tumbling 515 points to hit its lowest level since December, as global economic fears gripped the market. U.S. markets were already sharply lower on widespread worries, including the weak job market. But the selling gained momentum as Japanese and European policymakers stepped in with dramatic measures to shore up their financial markets. There’s “total fear” in the market, said Bob Doll, chief equity [...]

Ryan calls for ending oil subsidies

Ryan calls for ending oil subsidies

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan called for ending oil subsidies Thursday, further complicating Republican efforts to stay on message about rising gas prices. The Wisconsin Republican told constituents at a Waterford, Wis., town hall meeting that he agreed that federal oil subsidies ought to end. “We’re talking about reforming the safety net, the welfare system; we also want to get rid of corporate welfare. And corporate welfare goes to agribusiness companies, energy companies, financial services companies, so we propose to repeal all that,” Ryan said in response to a question about oil subsidies. A video of Ryan's town hall meeting was circulated by Think Progress, a blog run by the liberal-leaning Center for American Progress Action Fund. In a statement to [...]
