President Barack Obama taped an appearance on “The View” yesterday, and the show is airing today. “The View,” believe it or not, has been increasingly focused on booking politicians (you can read Journal reporter Amy Chozick’s story about the subject here). It’s part of the show’s strategy to hook viewers in the runup to the 2010 midterm elections. So why did Obama decide to go on the daytime chatfest? “I […]
However CNS News reported today that the Obama Administration preferred the release of Meghahi on compassionate grounds.
The Obama administration on Monday released the text of the LeBaron letter. It says Megrahi’s release on compassionate grounds would be “far preferable” than his return to Libya under a prisoner transfer agreement, but also sets two important conditions to this – he would have to remain in Scotland under supervision, and Scotland would have to release “the results of independent and comprehensive medical exams clearly establishing that Megrahi’s life expectancy is less than three months.” The full text of the letter is here.
The document, acquired by a well-placed US source, threatens to undermine US President Barack Obama’s claim last week that all Americans were “surprised, disappointed and angry” to learn of Megrahi’s release.
Scottish ministers viewed the level of US resistance to compassionate release as “half-hearted” and a sign it would be accepted.
The US has tried to keep the letter secret, refusing to give permission to the Scottish authorities to publish it on the grounds it would prevent future “frank and open communications” with other governments.
In the letter, sent on August 12 last year to Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond and justice officials, Mr LeBaron wrote that the US wanted Megrahi to remain imprisoned in view of the nature of the crime.
The president’s family is feeling a hit like most Americans these days: He says he and first lady Michelle Obama took a hit like everybody else when the economy nearly collapsed, telling ABC that a college fund for daughters Malia and Sasha has gone “up and down” with the stock market. Obama says the first couple is “not that far removed from what most Americans are going through.” via Michelle […]
SEN. DICK DURBIN (D-IL): “The National Debt Of America Doubled Under President Bush. From $5 Trillion Accumulated Debt In The History Of The United States Of America To The Day When President Bush Left Office And The National Debt Was $12 Trillion.” (Sen. Durbin, Floor Remarks, 7/20/10) POLITIFACT: “Durbin’s ‘Fact’ Is Wrong” POLITIFACT: “So, ‘in eight years of Republican rule,’ was it true that ‘the national debt went from $5 […]
Sometimes you hate being right. In chapter 4 of our book, The Blueprint: Obama’s Plan to Subvert the Constitution and Build an Imperial Presidency, my coauthor Ken Blackwell and I make the point that Team Obama would try to pull a fast one when it comes to Obamacare’s individual mandate that everyone reading this blog post needs to buy health insurance, or be subject to a penalty payable to your […]
Last year, while the Obama administration seized two of the nation’s three main domestic auto manufacturers, it also shut down thousands of dealerships across the country, supposedly to stabilize GM and Chrysler. A new report from Neil Barofsky, the Inspector General of the TARP program, calls into question that decision. In a sharp rebuke to the White House, Barofsky says that the action needlessly cost tens of thousands of jobs […]
WASHINGTON — Vice President Joe Biden says he never viewed ousted Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s mocking comment about him as a personal attack — but rather a reflection of policy disagreements over Afghanistan. Biden told ABC television’s “This Week” that President Barack Obama’s decision to fire his military commander in Afghanistan over McChrystal’s remarks in Rolling Stone magazine was “the absolutely necessary thing to do.” And he said others in the […]
Two minutes of fun from the Dallas Tea Party, and not the first time they’ve used YouTube to torment MSNBC’s heavily white talent roster. Even so, isn’t the big winner from this week’s dopey contretemps over alleged tea-party racism the NAACP? Granted, they’ve gotten a ton of pushback, but then that was always the point of passing that resolution — to start an ideological food fight that would drum up […]
The President in on his “Recovery Summer” Tour congratulating himself, everywhere he goes. Michigan has lost or dissolved 94 thousand jobs since the Recovery Act was passed. Not so sure I would be slapping myself on the back for that. Oh and by the way, each of these jobs cost you and I $500,000 a piece.. oh oh and one more thing, the money went to a South Korean company! […]
The DNC released a memo that says predictions of a Republican “wave” is misreading history. Greg Sargent has the short version: “Obama is more popular than Clinton was in 1994; the GOP has not capitalized on Dem travails to repair its brand; and Dems are persuading voters to see this fall’s contests as a choice between two governing philosophies.” via Why This Isn’t 1994. Well here, read the memo for […]
