Does Obama Have Confidence in Secret Service Chief?

I don’t think so.At least, any confidence he might have is contingent on what we find out.White House Press Secretary Jay Carney played the artful dodger on the question Tuesday, and apparently none of the White House press corps picked up on it.We’re back to, “It depends on what the meaning of the words ‘is’ is.”Here’s why.Carney was asked Tuesday, “Does the President feel that if these allegations are confirmed that the director of the Secret Service, Director Sullivan, should step down?”He answered:The President has confidence in the director of the Secret Service.  Director Sullivan acted quickly in response to this incident and is overseeing an investigation as we speak into the matter.  Beyond that, I’m not going to, as the President did not, speculate about [...]

A largely unknown group of Justice Department officials has inserted itself into the local Florida protest movement surrounding the killing of Trayvon Martin, assisting the protestors and attending their meetings and rallies. While the officials are tasked with preventing racial violence, it appears that in carrying out their duties, they have provided significant assistance to those protesting the killing of Martin, who black, by George Zimmerman, who is half white and half Hispanic. The officials are members of the DOJ’s Community Relations Service, also known as “The Peacemakers,” a special unit established under the 1964 Civil Rights Act and empowered to act to mitigate local tensions between ethnic groups. From the CRS website:It is the only Federal entity dedicated to assisting [...]

Obama to Kill Two Political Birds With One Stone

Updated 9:22 am ETThis is fantastic. A brilliant maneuver by the West Wing political operation. I’m deeply moved. The White House just announced that President Obama this morning will materialize in the Rose Garden to tell everyone that he is “cracking down” on manipulation of the oil market by financial profiteers. This is very elegant. Pretend you are doing something about gasoline prices while ALSO sticking it to evil rich people gorging themselves on investment income by manipulating the markets. It’s a campaign two-fer. If the “crackdown” actually does anything to reduce the price at the pump please wake me and let me know. Meanwhile, Obama gets to gin up the proletariat against Wall Street.Thank you David Plouffe, you are a political genius. I’m glad to see you’ve got [...]
