The brothers accused of setting off bombs at the Boston marathon were planning to carry out explosions in New York City, said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly. After the carjacking outside of Boston, brothers Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, intended to drive to Times Square to detonate a bomb. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and Mayor Michael Bloomberg said they learned of the plot form the FBI on Thursday. The suspects had a pressure cooker bomb and five pipe bombs with them when they were headed to Times Square. "We have no specific information about the targeting. Canadian police and intelligence agencies will announce later today they have thwarted a plot to carry out a major terrorist attack, arresting two suspects in Montreal and Toronto, CBC News has learned. Highly placed sources tell CBC News the alleged plotters have been under surveillance for more than a year in Quebec and southern Ontario. The two men are expected to appear in court tomorrow. The investigation was part of a cross-border operation involving Canadian law enforcement agencies, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. According to a Reuters report, U.S. law enforcement and national security sources said the alleged plot targeted a railroad between Toronto and New York City. The districts that contain Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City ranked last in terms of federal gun law enforcement in 2012, according to a new report from Syracuse University's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, which tracks federal data. Federal gun crimes include illegal possession of a firearm in a school zone, illegal sale of a firearm to a juvenile, felon, or drug addict, and illegal transport of a firearm across state lines.
