The Census Bureau's annual report on income, poverty and health insurance coverage said the national poverty rate climbed for a third consecutive year to 15.1 percent in 2010 as the economy struggled to recover from the recession that began in December 2007 and ended in June 2009. Evergreen Solar recipient of millions in stimulus money goes belly up
When Evergreen Solar Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Aug. 15, the company cited several market conditions that have impacted business, including a drop in silicon pricing, significant global capacity expansion and an end to industry subsidies in Germany and other key markets. The company's troubles could force it to give back money it received in the form of tax breaks from the state of Massachusetts, according to a National Public Radio report. U.S. Census Bureau is under attack for misspending millions
The U.S. Census Bureau is under attack for misspending and operational issues that could mar the 2010 headcount, which begins next month. Investigators with the U.S. Department of Commerce inspector general’s office reported finding numerous instances of waste, including paychecks of $300 apiece that went to thousands of temporary hires who performed little or no work.
