White House Press Briefing – Q. Are you a Paid Liar?
PRESS BRIEFING BY PRESS SECRETARY JAY CARNEY James S. Brady Press Briefing Room MR. CARNEY: Good Monday, everyone. Thanks for being here. Hope you had a nice weekend, hot as it was. Before I take your questions, let me tell you that on Thursday, June 6th, as part of his Middle Class Jobs and Opportunity Tour, the President will travel to Mooresville Middle School in Mooresville, North Carolina to deliver remarks and experience firsthand the school’s cutting-edge curriculum through digital learning. In his State of the Union address, the President laid out his belief that the middle class is the engine of economic growth in our country. To reignite that engine, there are three areas we need to invest in: jobs, skills, and opportunity. We need to build on the [...]
Q. Did Eric Holder lie? A. I refer you to the DOJ – WH press briefing 5/29/2013
PRESS BRIEFING BY PRESS SECRETARY JAY CARNEY James S. Brady Press Briefing Room MR. CARNEY: Hello, everyone. Good afternoon. Before I take your questions I wanted to let you know that on Friday, the President will be joined by college students here at the White House for an event where he will call on Congress to prevent student loan interest rates from doubling on July 1st. The President’s budget includes a proposal to guarantee students a low rate in July. Democrats in the House and Senate have also put forward solutions to achieve that goal. While we welcome that House Republicans have paid some attention to this issue this year, their proposal, unfortunately, does not meet the test. It fails to lock in low rates for students while also eliminating a safeguard that provides [...]
The Internal Revenue Circus
Over A Week Later, Obama’s IRS Scandal – And The Administration’s Reaction To It – Gets More Troubling By The Day THE WEEK IS HARDLY HALFWAY OVER – HOW MANY OTHER SHIFTING STORIES WILL THERE BE IN THE UNFOLDING IRS SCANDAL? National Journal’s Ron Fournier: “Shifting Stories Cast Doubts On Answer To Core Question: Did Team Obama Know About IRS Abuse In Real Time?” (Ron Fournier, “Why You Can't Trust The White House (Even If Nobody's Lying),” National Journal, 5/21/13) “In Politics, As In Life, When You Constantly Change Your Story, Even On Small Matters, You Sow Doubt About Your Credibility And Competence.” “And yet the revelations cost the Obama White House some measure of credibility. In politics, as in life, when you constantly change your [...]
Transcript: White House Press Briefing – IRS – DOJ – Benghazi May 14, 2013
THE WHITE HOUSE PRESS BRIEFING BY PRESS SECRETARY JAY CARNEY (transcript) May 14, 2013 MR. CARNEY: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for being here. I appreciate your attendance. And I have no announcements to make at the top, so I'll go straight to the Associated Press. Q Thanks, Jay. For fear of stating the obvious, the White House right now is confronting a confluence of issues -- Benghazi talking points, IRS reviews of political groups, Justice Department review of journalists’ phone records. And in every instance, either the President or you have placed the burden of responsibility someplace else. On the Benghazi talking points, it’s been political motivations on the Hill. On the IRS, it’s been the bureaucrats at the IRS. [...]
FlashBack – Scandal, Power And the President By Jay Carney
By Jay Carney In Washington, scandals metastasize, growing and changing until we can't remember what they were about in the beginning. A bungled burglary became a cancer on the presidency, forcing Richard Nixon to resign in disgrace. A money-losing Arkansas real estate deal led to Monica, a blue dress and Bill Clinton's impeachment. Already, the furor over the dismissal of eight U.S. Attorneys has shifted focus from the crass but essentially routine exercise of political patronage to the essential project of George W. Bush's presidency: its deliberate and aggressive efforts to expand and protect Executive power. Which is why divining the true motives behind the dismissals is only part of the battle under way in Washington. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have spent six years [...]
Damage Control? White House holds off-the-record Benghazi briefing
In place of the on-the-record briefing that was rescheduled for 1:45 p.m. today, the White House held an off-the-record briefing on Benghazi. The on-the-record briefing has been pushed back a second time to 3:15 p.m. The most open and transparent presidency in history just shut out the American people and offsite reporters (like Politisite) who receive their daily briefing via Video from the White House. The White House held an off-the-record briefing with reporters on Friday afternoon to discuss recent revelations about the Benghazi investigation, sources familiar with the meeting tell POLITICO. The meeting began around 12:45 p.m. and postponed the daily, on-the-record White House press briefing to 1:45 p.m. White House press secretary Jay Carney did not respond to a request [...]

Benghazi, a Long Time Ago
by Joe Keck According to Jay Carney, Press Secretary for the Obama administration, "Benghazi happened a long time ago". It's been eleven months. Which prompts one to wonder about Carney's criteria for relativity. Like most of us, I have had some of my belongings stolen. Tools, musical instruments, a bicycle, other things. How long does it take for all of those items to no longer be mine? Among my possessions that thieves took in the past was a very nice guitar that I loved. That was over ten years ago. Would Jay Carney then, consider it to now be the rightful property of the thief who took it? Apparently to the Obama Press Secretary, time not only heals all wounds, but all responsibilities as well. Hey Jay, news flash. Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Ty Woods. [...]
