The Washington Post reports that gun supporters behind the event are modeling the program after the tactics of marriage equality opponents, such as Mike Huckabee’s national Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day in response to the backlash the fast-food chain experienced from same-sex marriage advocates. Nearly a dozen organizations, including the Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, are encouraging supporters to shop at gun stores and visit shooting ranges in protest over potential crackdowns. Fourth of July. Independence Day. Normally we celebrate this day and enjoy our freedom. This year we cannot sit back and rest with BBQ during the day and fireworks at night. This year – this week starting today – we must fight for our independence. If we do not fight now, we may never be free again to celebrate Independence Day. As it stands, we have one party that wants to trample our freedom and will do whatever it takes to achieve their goal of a massive government takeover of our lives.
