Democratic Senate Candidate Elizabeth Warren has been all over the newspapers the past several days after a revelation that Harvard Law School identified her as a Native American faculty member in the mid-1990s. The claim to Native American status came as a shock to the media and the Scott Brown campaign. Warren contends that she was unaware of the designation by HLS, and that it played no role in her hiring. Warren asserts that her Native American heritage is family lore, and based on what she has been told not any specific documentation she is aware of. Subsequently, David Bernstein discovered that in annual reports by the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) from 1986-1994, Warren was listed as a minority faculty member. Since AALS bases such information solely on [...]
By Edmund Jenks, West Coast Editor, Politisite Over the weekend, the Boston Herald posted an article that tried to make the case of commonality between the Tea Party Movement and the Occupy (wherever) Movement. The proposition that the article tried to make from a national poll with 1,005 American adults (no background on demographic ... assume random) was that people were becoming tired of public political activism. While the title of the article delivered a direct comparison and linkage of the Occupy Movement to the Tea Party Movement, the first five paragraphs were devoted to the Occupy Movement, the next three paragraphs were devoted to the Tea Party Movement, and the balance of the analysis placed the two movements side-by-side with the conclusion as follows: This excerpted and [...]
STATEMENT OF OBAMA ADMINISTRATION POLICY – H.R. 1315 – Consumer Financial Protection Safety and Soundness Improvement Act of 2011
H.R. 1315 – Consumer Financial Protection Safety and Soundness Improvement Act of 2011 (Rep. Duffy, R-WI, and 4 cosponsors) The Administration strongly opposes House passage of the Rules Committee Print of H.R. 1315 because it would amend the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act in a manner that would expose American consumers and the Nation’s economy to the same risks that led to the 2008 financial crisis. H.R. 1315 would needlessly delay the transfer of Federal consumer financial protection responsibilities from seven other agencies to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) established by the Dodd-Frank Act, thus continuing to foster a fragmented approach to consumer financial protection. In addition, the bill would seriously weaken the [...]
One letter mistake by NBC owned @BreakingNews Sparks speculation on what Obama would say during his ‘Personal’ statement on Monday
No President obama is NOT stepping down from office. Nor is he not seeking a second term for office. The White House put out its daily schedule and it said, " THE PRESIDENT makes a personnel announcement". But the Twitter account @breakingNews tweeted that, "the President will make a personal announcement". Politisite posts the White House schedule each day and was used to correct many on Twitter who were either elated or worried about what the President would say. Alas, President Obama has nothing personal to tell America in the Rose Garden tomorrow, though many on Twitter suddenly believed so for about an hour or so today. @BreakingNews, a self-explanatory Twitter feed owned by NBC News (with over 2.7 million followers), announced at around 6:15 PM today that the President [...]
President Obama will likely be blocked from making recess appointments over next week’s July 4th break, according to Republican Senate sources. The Senate is likely to hold so-called “pro forma” sessions at least every three days over the holiday week, thus preventing Obama from making any such appointments during the period, according to the sources. Republicans forced Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to take a similar action over Memorial Day break. Asked what was going to happen next week, a Republican Senate aide emailed, “it’s likely that there will be pro forma sessions again, in part because Reid really doesn’t want to have to vote to adjourn.” Liberal activists have been pushing for Obama to recess-appoint Elizabeth Warren to head the new Consumer [...]
On Tuesday, May 24th 2011, during a hearing in a House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee, Chairman Patrick McHenry (NC-10) ended the hearing by calling Elizabeth Warren a liar. It was a messy and confusing ending for all watching. Warren had stated that the Chairman's staff and her, after a late-night, last-minute schedule change, had agreed to let her leave by 2:15 to meet other obligations. You can see the look of shock on her face when he outright calls her a liar. This video, recorded live, comes from the Oversight and Government Reform Committee's livefeed. via YouTube - Chairman McHenry Calls Elizabeth Warren a Liar at Subcommittee Hearing.
