Who won the Vice-Presidential Debate? Pick a Poll
By Albert N. Milliron, Founder, Politisite.com While watching the debate last night a scripture came to mind: Proverbs 29:9 "If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet". But we were not the only ones who thought that this scripture identified Smirking and Laughing Joe Biden The Proverb seemed to spread like wildfire on the internet, twitter, and Facebook. Having pointed that out, who actually won the debate? Well that appears to be a mixed bag. Partisans say their candidate won. Few undecideds changed their minds. Many saw Biden as disrespectful toward the challenger. We think the debate was a wash. Lets take a look at the various polls that were conducted shortly after the debate by various [...]
Polling Report: October 9, 2012
by Bob Grundfest Tell me that you saw this coming. Liar. With four weeks to go before the election, we seem to have the race we thought we'd have: close, hard-fought, and partisan. It's how we landed here that's most interesting. Mitt Romney received a negative bounce out of the GOP convention and his 47% comments further eroded his support. Then came last week's debate in Denver and the president's implosion, which has led to a surge in Republican enthusiasm that's brought us to today. The improving unemployment rate is also exerting its influence, but so far it's difficult to gauge just how much it's affecting the race. It's likely that we are still in a volatile polling episode and it will take a few more days to determine the extent of Romney's rebound and Obama's reaction [...]
Polling On the Eve of the Debate
by Bob Grundfest The pace of polling has slowed down since last week, but the overall trend is still towards Barack Obama in the swing states. His national numbers are somewhat closer, but Gallup (RV poll) still has him up six and Rasmussen has him leading by one, which is down two points from Monday. New Quinnipiac and CNN polls have Obama ahead by four and three, respectively, and the Washington Times has him up nine. There has been a great deal of debate in the polling world, that has spilled over into the general population, about poll methodologies and whether the national polling firms are oversampling Democrats to arrive at their numbers. My view is that the polling firms are seeing a shift in the number of people who are identifying themselves as Democrats and are adjusting [...]
CNN Poll: Romney Leads in Battleground States
President Barack Obama maintains a slight and statistically insignificant edge over Mitt Romney nationally, according to a new CNN/ORC International poll, but Romney leads Obama in critical battleground states. Obama leads Romney nationally by three percentage points, 49 to 46, with 4 percent of those saying they would vote for another candidate or neither candidate, which is inside the poll's margin of error. In the 15 states CNN calls battleground states — Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin — Romney leads Obama, 51 percent to 43 percent. CNN Cancels John King’s Political show, Blitzer expands
John King is an excellent political correspondent but his ratings on his own show were dismal. CNN will put him back on the campaign trail and expand Wolf Blitzer to three hours. The ailing cable news channel CNN on Wednesday abruptly ended “John King, USA,” its 6 p.m. political news program. The program will be replaced at the end of the month by “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” which will expand from two hours to three hours. Mr. Blitzer’s program currently precedes Mr. King’s, beginning at 4 p.m. Ken Jautz, the executive in charge of CNN, said in an internal memo that the schedule change was made to improve political coverage this year. Mr. King will be the network’s top campaign correspondent for the remainder of the presidential election cycle. He had a [...]
Axelrod, Holder give conflicting tales on whether Axelrod gave political advice to Holder
On CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod told host Candy Crowley that he rarely interacted with Attorney General Eric Holder in the White House and, contradicting recent testimony from Holder himself, claimed he never offered Holder political advice. “From time to time at the White House, I would see Holder at meetings and so on, but I rarely spoke to him, and I didn’t ever speak to him on issues of policy in the Justice Department,” Axelrod said. “I didn’t speak to him about personnel issues, other than at the beginning of the administration I recommended a communications person to him.” Axelrod said that he was particularly concerned about protecting the Department of Justice from any undue White House influence or [...]
CNN Plays 911 Call in Erickson SWATting Case
Today, CNN featured a story centering around CNN contributor and RedState managing editor Erick Erickson, the latest victimin a series of incidents in which an imposter mimics the phone number of a target, then calls the police and confesses to a violent crime. Such confessions often result in law enforcement personnel, many times special weapons and tactics teams (SWAT teams), responding to calls with full force, risking the life and health of the target. This tactic has been called SWATting by the FBI. The CNN story featured the 911 phone call that led to Erickson’s SWATting on May 27, 2012. It can be heard below. On the heels of that SWATting, Breitbart News contributor Lee Stranahan decided to conduct a podcast late that same evening to discuss the incident; the podcast [...]
CNN: Manufacturing boom in Right-to-Work low tax South
CAROL COSTELLO: You could say the South is in the middle of a hiring surge as big name businesses head to the region bringing thousands of new jobs with them. Here’s just a few of the companies: Hyundai is adding a third shift at an assembly plant in Alabama, while in Tennessee, Volkswagen has opened its only U.S. plant, spending a billion dollars to do it; Caterpillar is actually moving a plant from Japan to Georgia, and in Kentucky, GE has invested millions to reopen and revamp an appliance factory. Poppy Harlow has been all over this story joining me now. Automakers have been doing this for years and now GE and Caterpillar—what’s next? POPPY HARLOW: I’ve been down to most of those plants to see it firsthand. There are four main reasons why this is happening. A big [...]
