Damage Control? White House holds off-the-record Benghazi briefing

In place of the on-the-record briefing that was rescheduled for 1:45 p.m. today, the White House held an off-the-record briefing on Benghazi.  The on-the-record briefing has been pushed back a second time to 3:15 p.m. The most open and transparent presidency in history just shut out the American people and offsite reporters (like Politisite) who receive their daily briefing via Video from the White House. The White House held an off-the-record briefing with reporters on Friday afternoon to discuss recent revelations about the Benghazi investigation, sources familiar with the meeting tell POLITICO. The meeting began around 12:45 p.m. and postponed the daily, on-the-record White House press briefing to 1:45 p.m. White House press secretary Jay Carney did not respond to a request [...]

Does Obama Have Confidence in Secret Service Chief?

I don’t think so.At least, any confidence he might have is contingent on what we find out.White House Press Secretary Jay Carney played the artful dodger on the question Tuesday, and apparently none of the White House press corps picked up on it.We’re back to, “It depends on what the meaning of the words ‘is’ is.”Here’s why.Carney was asked Tuesday, “Does the President feel that if these allegations are confirmed that the director of the Secret Service, Director Sullivan, should step down?”He answered:The President has confidence in the director of the Secret Service.  Director Sullivan acted quickly in response to this incident and is overseeing an investigation as we speak into the matter.  Beyond that, I’m not going to, as the President did not, speculate about [...]
