Court Rules Bloggers not afforded same protection as Media

Court Rules Bloggers not afforded same protection as Media

Bloggers in Oregon, watch out. That’s because this month an Oregon court ruled that bloggers do not have same protection as the “media.” This ruling emerged when Crystal Cox, a blogger, was accused of defaming Obsidian Finance Group and its co-founder Kevin Padrick on her blog. She posted that Padrick acted criminally in a federal bankruptcy case. Padrick sued and the court found that Cox was not protected under the state’s media shield law. This decision has implications for bloggers around the country. Since there is no legal definition for “the press,” this court ruling is one of the first to explicitly say that bloggers are not the media. This comes only a few short months after a federal court ruled that anyone, including bloggers, may legally record public [...]

White House Blog Post: Advance Estimate of GDP for the Third Quarter of 2011

White House Blog Post: Advance Estimate of GDP for the Third Quarter of 2011 WASHINGTON, DC – Katharine Abraham, Member of the Council of Economic Advisors, issued the following statement today. You can view the statement on the White House Blog HERE. Advance Estimate of GDP for the Third Quarter of 2011 Today’s report shows that the economy posted the ninth straight quarter of positive growth, as real GDP (the total amount of goods and services produced in the country) grew at a 2.5 percent annual rate in the third quarter of this year. The level of real GDP now exceeds its level at the business cycle peak in the fourth quarter of 2007. While the continued expansion is encouraging, faster growth clearly is needed to replace the jobs lost in the recent downturn and to reduce [...]

Lesbian Syrian woman Amina Affaf has been found safe! She is a He and “Gay Girl in Damascus” blog a Hoax

Amina Affaf has been found and is safe! Turns out the Lesbian Syrian woman Amina Arraf is really 40 year old Tom MacMaster from Georgia. A Gay Girl in Damascus’ comes clean In recent days, the world has followed closely the saga of Amina Arraf, the blogger who presented herself online as “A Gay Girl in Damascus” and who drew attention with her passionate writings about the Syrian government’s crackdown on Arab Spring protesters. Those writings stopped last Tuesday, and a posting to the blog, ostensibly written by a cousin, said she had been hauled away by government security agents. News of her disappearance became an Internet and media sensation. The U.S. State Department started an investigation. But almost immediately skeptics began asking: Has anyone ever [...]

Does the White House have a division assigned to Bully Reporters?

Does the White House have a division assigned to Bully Reporters?

Does the White House have a division assigned to Bully Reporters? From White House Dossier. The Obama White House has long practiced the tactic of bullying reporters who write stories it doesn’t like. I was on the receiving end of it plenty of times during my time covering President Obama for Roll Call. It’s a tactic, a form of suppression of speech by the openness administration that I’ve written about before. The appointment of Jesse Lee to a White House position that involves responding to negative stories seems likely to formalize the strategy and signals that such behavior is likely to escalate as the campaign begins, not decline. While the tactic is done frequently, what’s rare is a mainstream media reporter with the guts to talk about it. Read the Rest at White [...]

Donald Trump is a Fraud and a Demagogue

Donald Trump is a Fraud and a Demagogue

This from White House Dossier Two weeks ago, I wrote a post describing how much I like a book by Donald Trump, “Think Big.” It helped motivate me as I began this blog. I said at the end of the piece that what I was writing was not meant as an endorsement yet -that I hadn’t thought about it much. Well, I thought about it. Donald Trump, at least as a politician, is a fraud and demagogue. Whatever you think of his straight talking style and his willingness to go after President Obama, he is a power-hungry Sophist and a danger to the country. As is typical with demagogues, he says the answer to the country’s problems is – him. He has no serious program, no agenda, no new ideas other than to obtain power and support for himself. The few ideas he does throw around – [...]

Couric to take 5 PM slot on FoxNews and other Media Blog Glenn Beck fallacies – Video

Yes it's true!  Katie Couric and Glenn Beck changes seem awfully close together.  Couric has to be getting Becks 5 pm slot.  I mean if you want to lose 2 million viewers you get Couric!  That is just some of the crazy stuff that is out there.  Today I received three different e-mails all taking credit for Glenn Becks demise from Fox.  Media Matters did it all, The Color of Change attacked all 300 advertisers, and even Chris Mathews is taking credit for Becks departure... but wait.. Beck isn't leaving.  He is transitioning out of his 5 pm show to do other things with Fox and his Mercury group. But let the left keep doing what they do, showing their own delusional self importance and power.  As we watch folks leave CNN and MSNBC like flys in the midst of DDT, they just have to make [...]

New poll has Nikki Haley ahead of field in S.C. GOP prior to Affair Allegations

Many South Carolinians are asking, why did information about a three year old affair comes out now?  Maybe this story will add some insight A new poll taken before accusations of an extramarital affair surfaced shows South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley well ahead in the race for the GOP nod. A Public Policy Polling survey of 638 likely Republican primary voters conducted last Saturday and Sunday found Haley at 39 percent support, while Republican rivals state Attorney General Henry McMaster and Rep. Gresham Barrett were at 18 and 16 percent, respectively. A release from PPP noted, "she'll have to see an incredible drop in her support not to get one of the two runoff spots when South Carolina voters go to the polls two weeks from today." Haley, who has been [...]
