Court Rules Bloggers not afforded same protection as Media
Bloggers in Oregon, watch out. That’s because this month an Oregon court ruled that bloggers do not have same protection as the “media.” This ruling emerged when Crystal Cox, a blogger, was accused of defaming Obsidian Finance Group and its co-founder Kevin Padrick on her blog. She posted that Padrick acted criminally in a federal bankruptcy case. Padrick sued and the court found that Cox was not protected under the state’s media shield law. This decision has implications for bloggers around the country. Since there is no legal definition for “the press,” this court ruling is one of the first to explicitly say that bloggers are not the media. I was on the receiving end of it plenty of times during my time covering President Obama for Roll Call. It’s a tactic, a form of suppression of speech by the openness administration that I’ve written about before. Yes it's true! Katie Couric and Glenn Beck changes seem awfully close together. Couric has to be getting Becks 5 pm slot. I mean if you want to lose 2 million viewers you get Couric! Many South Carolinians are asking, why did information about a three year old affair comes out now? Maybe this story will add some insight A new poll taken before accusations of an extramarital affair surfaced shows South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley well ahead in the race for the GOP nod. A Public Policy Polling survey of 638 likely Republican primary voters conducted last Saturday and Sunday found Haley at 39 percent support, while Republican rivals state Attorney General Henry McMaster and Rep. Gresham Barrett were at 18 and 16 percent, respectively.
