Judge Blocks Parts Of Georgia Immigration Law

Judge Blocks Parts Of Georgia Immigration Law

ATLANTA -- A federal judge on Monday blocked parts of Georgia's law cracking down on illegal immigration from taking effect until a legal challenge is resolved. Judge Thomas Thrash granted a request to block parts of the law that penalize people who knowingly and willingly transport or harbor illegal immigrants while committing another crime. He also blocked provisions that authorize officers to verify the immigration status of someone who can't provide proper identification. Thrash wrote that under parts of the law, the state is enforcing immigration law that should be left to the federal government. Thrash also dismissed parts of the lawsuit at the state's request. The Moocher Index : States with the Most Welfare recipients, and the least

The Moocher Index : States with the Most Welfare recipients, and the least

Many folks think the Moocher states are all in the south because of lower wages and a large poor population based on national standards.  Not so.  The top recipient is Vermont.  Now one can undersand why Vermont elects socialist Bernie Sanders to the Senate. The next states on the list are Mississippi, Maine, New York, Massachusetts, and Alaska.  Hold it, aren't most of them Democrat Governed and Union States? Who are least dependent on public assistance?  Florida, Virginia, Arizona, Colorado and Nevada. The Center for Immigration Studies recently put out a study arguing that immigration has had negative effects on California. One of their measures was a comparison of how many people in the state were receiving some form of welfare compared to other states. I found that data (see [...]

High Court Upholds Arizona Immigration Law

High Court Upholds Arizona Immigration Law

The Supreme Court has backed an Arizona law that punishes businesses hiring illegal immigrants, a law that opponents, including the Obama administration, say steps on traditional federal oversight over immigration matters. The 5-3 ruling Thursday is a victory for supporters of immigration reform on the state level. It was the first high court challenge to a variety of recent state laws cracking down on illegal immigrants, an issue that has become a political lightning rod. The outcome could serve as a judicial warm-up for a separate high-profile challenge to a more controversial Arizona immigration reform law working its way through lower courts. That statute would, among other things, give local police a greater role in arresting suspected illegal immigrants. via [...]
