DoD US Military Casualties in Afghanistan as of 25 November 2011
As Americans celebrated Thanksgiving on Thursday and pursued the madness of Black Friday yesterday, with shootings and pepper spraying, young American men and women in Afghanistan continued to put their life on the line in the service of their nation. The Department of Defense (DoD) reports that another five Americans paid the ultimate price. The DoD report shows no change in those wounded in action. That number should be taken with a grain of salt and may not have been updated due to the Thanksgiving long weekend. Earlier this week, the CNN National Security Debate, moderated by Wolf Blitzer, had GOP candidates face off on issues of national concern. While little time was devoted to Afghanistan as a whole, the candidates touched the issue of Pakistan. Funding of Pakistan was [...]
CNN National Security Debate Analysis/Opinion #CNNdebate
By Karl Gotthardt CNN hosted the GOP Presidential debate, last night, from Constitution Hall in the nation’s capital. The moderator was CNN's Wolf Blitzer. While the debate covered a myriad of subjects and issues, overall the two hour debate was shallow and lacked in depth. While Europe is dealing with the biggest financial crisis in our time, the subject was never addressed. There were discussions on Iran, Iraq, Israel, Libya, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and China, but nothing jumped out as a game changer. Energy independence should have been on the radar. The United States continues to consume approximately 21 million barrels of oil each day, yet the subject was almost brushed over. With the powder keg in the Middle East, especially Iran's obsession to get [...]
CNN Debate on National Security – The Issues – #CNNDebate
The CNN Debate on National Security, moderated by CNN's lead anchor, will be broadcast this evening from Washington, D.C. As the candidates prepare to answer some difficult questions dealing with national security, there are several trouble spots in the world that they need to brush up on that affect national security. Subjects likely to be covered will be the War on Terror, including domestic terrorism, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Libya, Syria, Iran, North Korea, Egypt and Iraq. There should also be a discussion on the national debt and the European crisis and its effects on national security. China has been flexing its muscles and the recent announcement of the deployment of 250 Marines to Australia should be highlighted as well. As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan wind [...]
DoD US Military Casualties in Afghanistan as of 18 November 2011
Five more US soldiers have paid the ultimate price in Afghanistan, bringing the total so far this year to 343, while another 44 were wounded in action. These figures don't include the number of those affected by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The death toll in Iraq is up to 4,486, of which 65 have been killed since combat operations in Iraq ceased. While the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are winding down, the world continues to be increasingly dangerous. Syria keeps ignoring warning by the UN and Western powers and the international community is at odds on how to deal with the every increasing violence. While Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the US are pushing for tougher sanctions, the Arab world has given Syria a deadline to stop the violence before imposing [...]
DoD US Military Casualties in Afghanistan as of 11 November 2011
Yesterday the world paused and observed a minute of silence in honour of those that sacrificed everything in the struggle for freedom. Unfortunately, the war that was intended to end all wars, World War I, did not take into account human nature and to this day armed conflicts around the globe are still the norm. The war in Afghanistan, this week, claimed the life of yet another American soldier and injured 60 others. Add to this the lives of soldiers and their families that have been changed forever, with the horrors they have seen in this war torn country. Many of them with multiple tours. There has been an upsurge of violence in Afghanistan this year, with pointed insurgent attacks on politicians and Afghan Security Forces installations. Suicide bombers, Improvised Explosive [...]

On Friday a top U.S. General, Major General Fuller, was relieved of command after making derogatory remarks about Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the Afghan government. Fuller was the Commander in charge of training Afghan Security Forces, a priority of NATO with the impending withdrawal of NATO troops. WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Major General Peter [...]
