Well, the Republicans have taken the Senate and I got news for you Democrats! Yeah baby, ya better get ready. There’s a big wave a’comin!. Now that the GOP is in control of both Houses, get ready for vast waves of sweeping legislation that will be just ever so slightly less Liberal than what you guys have been giving us.
Democrats have been ranting and raving about raising the minimum wage. I can just see the former minority leader, now majority leader, Mitch McConnell laying down the law to the Dems.
“Hey Harry Reid, back off, Jack! Don’t be thinkin’ you’re gonna get that minimum wage bill passed. Oh no. We Republicans ain’t gonna play that game. Ain’t no fifteen dollars an hour in this legislative body, by damned! Now way, no day, buddy,” says McConnell as he takes a firm grip on the gavel, leveling a stern eye at the opposition party. “We steeled Republicans won’t even consider anything over fourteen dollars an hour. I mean it. Read my lips. Well . . . maybe fourteen fifty. Fourteen seventy-five, but that’s it!”
That’s my party, and I’ll cry if I want to.
McConnell taunts him a second time,
“And as far as illegal aliens and amnesty? Brace yourself. It’s going to be a long time before those eleven million law-breaking mockers of our land get citizenship. I’m talking weeks, maybe even months before we cave-in to media and Democrat demands.”
Okay, okay, you might think I’m a tad bitter. Well, I am. But that sour taste in my mouth for GOP saber-rattling is not altogether unwarranted.
In ’94 – that’s nineteen-ninety-four, not eighteen-ninety-four – the Republicans took over the Senate then too. And at the time, I was filled with excitement. My outlook was actually sparkling, vibrant, even unreservedly hopeful. And since that Midterm gave us both House and Senate, I was ready for some real Conservative changes. No doubt, thought I, the Death Tax would be killed, and babies would be saved.
The opposite happened.
Abortion was kept bolted down to the floor of the halls of Congress and the windfall profits for Government were kept running in high gear by the death of many a taxpayer.
So much for that Republican Revolution, so you’ll forgive me if I don’t jump up and down with this one.
Lest you think me unduly dour, I cite the Affordable Care Act – ObamaCare. The reason we have this absolute catastrophe, is not only because of Barack Obama. Another reason we suffered that debacle – and I would submit the main one – is because of the solid Republican majority in the House of Representatives.
Sure, Obama created it, but the House of Representatives, that would be the Republican CONTROLLED House of Representatives, could have stopped it dead in its tracks. Since all appropriations – that’s money – must, MUST originate in the House of Representatives, they could have simply refused to fund the unconstitutional socialist program. All they had to do is say to Obama,
‘Okay, go ahead, put in this sweeping government takeover of one-sixth of the nation’s economy. Then reach into you back pocket and get out your wallet to pay for it. We’re not!’
I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade. There is nothing that would thrill me more than to see this country put back on the right track, the track to our Founders’ original concept of freedom, prosperity, Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. But it takes a Constitutionally-minded Conservative Congress and Senate to bring such an archaic system back around.
There’s the rub.
Last night, the Republicans took over the Senate. And I’m happy that they did. If nothing else, it will give me an acute jolt of ebullient delight to see that feckless, facile, and fatuous Harry Reid finally put the Senatorial gavel into the hand of a Republican. But since that Republican is Mitch McConnell, the one who told true Conservative Senator Ted Cruz that there’s no place for Tea Party types in the GOP, I’m a bit reserved with my enthusiasm.
Am I happy with the changing of the guard? Yes. Am I happy with the guards? No. I’m not. That’s because the only miracle drug for the healing of this country is not an FDA manufactured serum of federal injections, which the Establishment Republicans are all for. No, it’s a steady diet of home-grown, non-shrink wrapped, fresh-off-the-vine Constitutional Conservatism. That’s it. Drugs and synthetic supplements will not build our national health. The Democrats and Obama have been giving us little packets of white powder for far too long, and the Republicans have supplied the syringe and spoon.
I don’t think America will ever have the guts to go cold turkey, but with the help of God, we might be able to ween ourselves down for the next two years, then move to the next step and throw out the RINO’s and Establishment Republicans (McConnell, Boehner, McCain, Graham) and bring in true, Pro-life, pro-business, pro-Founding Documents, Reagan Republicans. Ones who respect Original Intent, Enumeration, THE RULE OF LAW! Republicans like the one’s who defeated the Democrats’ beloved slavery in the nineteenth century, Republicans like the ones who defeated the Democrats’ fight against the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1960’s, and Republicans like the ones who USED TO PROTECT THE LIFE OF A TINY BABY!
If that happens, we just might have a chance. If not, well, be prepared for a new Two-Party system: Democrats and Republicrats.
Then you can kiss your children and grandchildren goodbye.
Last night, the GOP won. In the coming sessions, let us pray that the country does too.
