SAN FRANCISCO, July 6 (Yonhap) — An Asiana Airlines passenger jet crashed during landing at San Francisco International Airport, U.S. civil aviation authorities said Saturday.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the wide-body Boeing 777 crashed during a landing run, although it was not known if people were injured.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS) — An Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 crashed at San Francisco International

Airport around noon Saturday. Early reports indicate the crash happened as the jet was landing. The tail came apart from the plane and the resulting fire sent black smoke billowing into the air, visible for miles.

It was not known how many passengers may have survived the crash. Firefighters and emergency crews from San Francisco, Redwood City, San Mateo were responding to the airport.

Airport officials have closed all access to the airport.

The flight was on direct flight and was landing at around 11:30 a.m. According to a witness, the plane was just about to land — its landing gear had come down — when the tail of the plane came off.

After wobbling for a minute, the aircraft flipped upside down, coming to a stop on runway on it’s back, according to witness Kathy Muhler.
