When Will They Ever Learn?

by Joe Keck

Yet another example of a situation where the presence of a gun in the hands of a law-abiding citizen would most likely have saved someone’s life.

A little over a week ago, Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65, grabbed a five year-old boy from a school bus in Midland City, Alabama, killing Bus driver, Charles Poland, 66 in the process. Poland refused to turn over two young children to him and Dykes rewarded him with taking his life. Thank God it turned out well for the child who was taken by the child kidnapper/murderer and held captive for several days in a bunker.

But as we can all imagine, it might not have turned out so well for the boy.

Instead of hugs and kisses from the terrified parents of the little boy after his rescue, there may very well have been tears and funeral preparations instead. Many of these cases have ended in tragedy for the vicitm, and I’m sure we are all happy this one did not.

It did, however, end in tragedy for Charles Poland and his family. And, hard as it is to hear, I will go ahead and say it: It is a tragedy that could have been avoided.

If the heroic Mr. Poland had been armed, all might have been different and the headlines might only have read of the death of one ‘would be kidnapper, Jimmy Lee Dykes.’

The bus driver, Charles Poland, proved himself a wonderfully brave man. In fact, he gave his very life for his kids. It is obvious to me that such a man would have unhesitatingly and enthusiastically used his weapon to keep Dykes from kidnapping the little boy that terrible day.

But he had no weapon.

Here is one Alabama law regarding guns and school children.

Alabama HB125 78211-2 Act No. 2006-539

Section 1. (a) No person shall shoot or discharge a firearm into an occupied ore unoocupied shool but or shool building.

(b) A person who shoots or discharges a fireaem into an occupied school but or school building shall be guilty of a Class B felony.

(c) A person who shoots or discharges a fireaem into an occupied school but or school building shall be guilty of a Class C felony.

I suppose Dykes would have never carried out his murderous crime if he’d only been familiar with Alabama’s strict gun laws protecting its school busses and buildings. How could he? According to those on the Left, more laws will stop this sort of thing.

So, all you future murderers, kidnappers, and rapists, be forewarned. More laws are on their way!

You can almost hear the knees of these criminals knocking together at the mere thought of the legislative inscription.

So, yet again, we have another kidnapping and a killing by a non-law-abiding citizen, not, I contend, because some whacko decided to go on a rampage, for that happens quite often in some city, somewhere. Rather, it is because the supposed good-hearted Liberals’ ignorance has made it easy for criminals to prey on those who’s hands are tied behind their backs with restrictive anti-gun laws.

Our brilliant Founders knew full well the evil of man. They had just experienced it with a king on the other side of the Atlantic. So, in their vast wisdom, they came up with the Second Amendment. And Liberal anti-gunners, in their vast ignorance violated it.

And we all suffer the result.

Today, right now, right this moment, if some crazed maniac or even just an angry, bad guy, wanted to take a group of children, a woman, a senescent citizen, anyone for their own nefarious and/or vile purposes, he would not go to a gun range. He would not go to a police station, or to any homes that he knew were proud members of the NRA.

He would go to a school. Because he would be guaranteed a “No Resistance Zone.”

Hitler, Mao, Stalin, all would be proud of their American Liberal Gun Control protégés on the Left following their lead. They didn’t want an armed citizenry, either.

How many have to be kidnapped, raped, terrorized, and murdered before this country wakes up and realizes that knives can’t be murderers, even though more murders are committed by knives than guns. Baseball bats can’t be murderers. Nor can bombs, poisons, fire, water, ropes, razor blades. None of these can murder anyone!

And likewise, nor can guns.

However, of all the above, it is the gun that can most effectively stop a terrorizing, a kidnapping, a rape, or a murder.

Had the Liberal anti-gun lobby not been given so much credibility and power, it is likely Charles Poland would have been armed, and therefore, alive today. And because of his strenth of character in uch a situation, that little boy would not have had to go through the traumatic torture that Dykes put upon his little innocent mind.

In the words of that famous 60’s ballad, When will they ever learn?
