“Yes Gene, Adam Lanza, that’s the name of the killer.”
“Yes Gene, they do. But like I said, I have a video of my interview with him just moments ago. It should be ready in a moment. I got a chance to talk with Williams, just after the incident, before the police took him away for questioning. I think it’s – do we? We have it? Okay, yes, Gene, we have the video ready.”
“Okay, Molly, go ahead.”
“Here it is.”
“I’m here with David Williams, the young man who shot the killer, Adam Lanza.
David, weren’t you reluctant to use your gun, I mean, a teacher actually carrying a gun to school with him. I know the Campus Carry law has been in place for months now, but from my understanding, most of the other teachers opted not to bring such a dangerous weapon into an area full of children.”
“Well, the killer didn’t shy away from it. No, I wasn’t reluctant at all. What happened today is the reason I carry my weapon to school.”
“But witnesses said you didn’t even hesitate, you just pulled your gun and shot the young man without making sure he was the one with the gun or making sure that–”
“Look, he’d already shot Dawn, then Mary then pointed toward the children. If I would have hesitated, I don’t know for sure, but I’d be willing to bet many more would be dead right now.”
“But David, with your gun, that makes two guns on the grounds. Is that a positive thing, with two guns there’s twice the potential for danger. After all, we don’t even know if the shooter would have killed anyone else except the two he shot.”
“Look, I don’t know, he might have killed two or he might have killed twenty. All I know is I stopped him, me and my gun stopped him.”
“Okay, I see the officer is calling for you, we appreciate your time.”
“Well Gene, there you have it. That was the taped interview I had just moments ago. I only had a couple of minutes, seconds really, with teacher David Williams before the police took him away. Again, David Williams, thirty-four, a teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary School, who had a Campus Carry permit, that’s a permit that allows any–literally anyone who passes an FBI background check–to carry a concealed weapon, a gun, on any school campus. He was carrying his gun today of all days, and he shot, apparently he shot the killer, Adam Lanza, twice, once in the chest and once in the neck, reportedly killing him.”
“Ok, thanks Molly, keep us posted.”
“I certainly will, Gene.”
“That was Molly Bostwick in Newtown Connecticut, our correspondent from our affiliate at KMVR. We’ll be checking back with her throughout the day.
Just to recap, a lone gunman, Adam Lanza, shot and killed two people at Sandy Hook Elementary School after somehow gaining entrance to the locked security school grounds. He was then, as you just heard from Molly, shot and killed by a teacher, David Williams, who taught there at the Newtown school.
In all, tragically, three dead, including the gunman who was shot by a teacher at the school. Thankfully, no children were harmed.
I’m Gene Givens, and we’ll keep you updated on this terrible incident.
Your watching Network News.”
Sadly, that is not the way the tragedy at Newtown Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School played out. There was no David Williams, no armed teacher, no law abiding citizen with the skill and weaponry to halt the mayhem that took place there. It was against the law for anyone to be on the school grounds with a gun.
Adam Lanza ignored that law.
The Aurora Colorado Batman theater shooting was another place where the shooter was the only one with a gun. There were several other theaters in the area, one with a larger seating capacity than Aurora’s Cinemark Century 16, the one where the killing spree occurred. All of them showing the new Batman movie, all about the same distance from the killer’s home, all of them public places open for business.
So why the Cinemark Century? Why didn’t James Holmes target one of the other theaters in his vicinity.
The Cinemark Century 16, unlike the other six, had a sign post at the entrance declaring it a Gun Free Zone.
Sandy Hook Elementary School was a Gun Free Zone.
Most convenient stores are Gun Free Zones.
The Connecticut Doctor whose wife and two daughters were raped, tied to their beds and burned to death by two convicts, his house was a Gun Free Zone.
How long must one beat a donkey on the head with a stick before it learns the lesson?
It would seem the colorful stars and stripes donkeys are even more dense than their real-life counterparts.
God took twenty little angels home that horrible day in Newtown, and my heart is crushed at the thought of small, cherub-faced children suffering from such a heinous act of evil.
I will say a prayer for their little souls and for their families.
But I will pray another prayer. I will pray that this country will eventually come to understand that children, and many other innocents like them, deserve our protection to the greatest, most powerful degree we have at our disposal.
Regardless of the magazine capacity.
I beg you Liberal, Gun-Control advocates out there to listen.
One day, you, or someone you love, may need such protection.
