How long, oh Lord?

How long, oh Lord?

By Joe Keck

Okay, this is going to be short. We lost. Yes, I admit it. How can I not? The taste of freshly prepared crow lingers strong and bitter on my tongue, as I reluctantly admit that my arrow has flown wildly off, miles from it’s target.

As I said, we lost.

But when I say ‘we’ I do not mean just Republicans. I do not mean just Conservatives. I don’t mean Christians, those of faith, the Tea Party members, the NRA, GOP, or any other right leaning or even right wing organization. Yes, all of the above have lost, to be sure, but the We I’m speaking of, is the all of us. The We who will have to deal with, like the Children of Israel millennia ago, the cupped hands of God letting go of this country and maybe the world.

The Bible tells of the prophet Samuel in the book of that same name, speaking to the people of Israel, imploring them to come back to God and give up this idea of conforming to the World. But they said no and demanded a king! So God did a terrible and devastating thing to punish them for their rejection of Him and His comforting governance.

He gave them what they asked for.

Last night, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God Jesus Christ, did the same for us.

In Biblical times, often, there were those who suffered due to the actions of their fellow citizens. The rain falls on the just and the unjust.

Four years ago, the rains of Liberalism that was falling – and had been falling for the last half a century – grew more intense. Barack Obama’s election brought about a flood.

We now must prepare for a deluge.

I don’t know if the people who voted for Obama over Romney did so out of ignorance, Humanism, or an outright hatred of our holy Creator. Regardless, the result is the same. And those of us who did not cast such a vote will be drowned in the same filthy waters of Socialistic suffering as those who did. We are not without fault, for we have allowed such seed to take root and grow.

The We I spoke of before is the We of the whole world. These United States of America was and always has been, the last hope of freedom for the world.

That hope may now be forever extinguished.

We, the people of this planet, will now have to work ever harder, ever more exhaustively, to try and woo back the graces of God. Can it be done? I don’t know.

Imagine going up to the throne of a holy God and saying, Hey, God, we’ve murdered millions of babies and continue to do so every day, we’ve sanctioned pornography, drunkenness, licentious behavior for our children and allowed You to be kicked out of our schools and state establishments, but would you please save our country?

If there ever was one, now is the time to bloody our knees, now is the time for soul-searching heart-wrenching prayer.

The Children of Israel prayed for a deliverer. It took hundreds of years, but finally, God answered those prayers.

With heavy heart and trembling fear, I beg that that He will not take that long to answer the prayers of the Children of America.

About the Author

Joe Keck is a writer of horror, thriller, suspense, and other fiction, some poetry and music, with the occasional op-ed piece on current events, politics, and theology. Although born in Oklahoma, he was taken to Los Angeles when he was an infant, or as his mother described, "the ugliest little thing I've ever seen", and raised there on the West Coast. He considers himself to be far superior to most on the artistic merits of film and literature, seeing the vast majority of such to be well below adequate. He has four novels and many short stories to his credit, and hopes to one day have them published, promising to hold critics like himself in harsh derision. He's currently restoring a Jason 35 sailboat and plans to sail the world, writing horror stories, and marveling at the illustrative works of the Creator and His Divine story-telling imagery.
