Benghazi Gate: Another reason not to vote for Obama

There are a myriad of reason not to give President Obama four more years.  Those include the state of the economy with 7.9% official unemployment, but closer to 14% in reality.  23 Million Americans are unemployed or underemployed.  The national debt has topped the $16 Trillion mark and projected deficits are $1.2 Trillion of the next four years.  This, from the President that promised that he would half the deficit and that he would cut the unemployment rate to 5.4%.  One of six Americans live in poverty and the Middle East is in disarray.  Add the debacle in Benghazi and you have one more reason not to vote for an Obama second term.

Let`s examine Benghazi

As early as April the administration knew or should have known that not all was well in Libya.  Insurgent militias controlled Benghazi and a series of attacks, including an attempt on the life of the UK envoy and an attack on the International Red Cross demonstrated that Benghazi was not safe, causing both organizations to leave Benghazi.  On August 15 th a whole was blown in the compound wall of he US mission post in Benghazi, yet security was not increased.  Those viagra pills having the administrations back will tell you that Ambassador Chris Stevens was not stationed in Benghazi, but in Tripoli.  The fact is that he was in Benghazi on September 11th, which should have been another indicator of a pending attack based on intelligence dating back to August.  Two special ops security details were repatriated to the US in August, despite pleas that the mission posts lacked security.

On the date of the attack, which lasted nine hour, a drone was overhead within two hours and indications are that the president was watching the attack.  That coverage lasted until the completion of the attack.  Those wanting to undertake some sort of action to free the personnel at the beleaguered mission post were told to stand down.  Former Navy Seal Tyron Snith and a band of brother defied orders and freed approximately 30 people in the consulate and brought them to safety.  Tyron Smith`s father, in an emotional interview on FOX News categorized his sons killing as a murder, although not in the legal sense.  He called on leaders in the administration to stand up and change their lives.

Despite knowing full well that this was a planned attack, the administration sold the story that this was an attack that resulted out of a spontaneous mob action based on an anti-Islam video, which had been available on line and probably no one saw.   Two weeks after the attack UN ambassador Susan Rice made the Sunday talk show tour spreading that untruth.  President Obama during his speech to the UN General Assembly continued to tell that fib to the members of the global community.

In the ensuing weeks it seemed that almost daily new details came to light.  Besides CNN finding the ambassador`s diary, sensitive documents found by the Washington Post and even after a three hour sweep by the FBI of the compound, Foreign Policy Magazine revealed more documents that included pleas for help by the beleaguered staff.

The administration has successfully deferred Benghazi until after the election.  The State Department has made clear that the investigation would last up to 60 days, which would not permit any more details to be released by the administration until at least mid December.

Despite this, it is clear that there was a massive intelligence failure, a failure to protect the ambassador and total incompetence by the White House.  Hillary Clinton chose the eve of the third presidential debate to accept full responsibility, however she is still the Secretary of State.  Obama accepted responsibility for the debacle during the debate, but there was no follow up and Mitt Romney wisely did not take the presidents bait for a catfight.

Regardless who wins this election, Benghazi will, in all likelihood, be front and centre during after the election.  With the election and Hurricane Sandy put to rest by the main stream media they will be looking for a story.  In the meantime the American people, who deserve an answer from the `so called`most transparent administration.  While the economy and bread and butter issues are on the table for the election, Obama`s foreign policy failures should be cause enough not to re-elect him.

  1. Karl, this is an example of the lawlessness that the Obama White House is being allowed to getaway with. i think it points to the flaws of our 2 party system, when one fails the other one should be covering the people’s interests, but that’s not the way it has been working

  2. American foreign policy decisions are crucial from an outsider point of view and what happened at Benghazi is reprehensible. It has caused the loss of an ambassador and staff in Libya due to sheer irresponsibility from higher ups. It will surely haunt Obama and democrats in years to come.
