“Because it’s the right thing to do.”
“The rich should pay their fair share.”
“Spread the wealth around.”
These are all statements made by the Democrats generally, and Barack Obama particularly. But, what exactly do they mean? What does Obama mean when he says, “Spread the wealth around”? What is a fair share? What is “the right thing to do?”
Such haughty moralizing makes good sound bite, but seldom are the words sufficiently unpacked and examined.
Let us shine some light on the above, starting with ‘Fair Share.’ When the Democrats use and overuse, the term, they never put a number to it. They let the syllables fall off the tongue, then move on, as if they are merely saying as two and two are four. So, given that The Rich (as they deem anyone making over $250,000 a year) pay the vast majority of the taxes in this country, are they saying that anyone making above that number should pay all revenue that sustains our nation?
The government taxes, double taxes, triple taxes – and more – the said rich on just about everything they touch. It even taxes death! I was absolutely aghast when I first found out that just because someone dies, the government gets half of the estate. I couldn’t believe it when a friend of mine told me that.
“Why?” was my outraged cry.
He had no answer.
So, give me a number, Mr. Liberal.
I won’t hold my breath.
“Spread the wealth around.” This was a bit shocking to hear. I gotta’ give ol’ B.O. some credit on that one. Few people would have had the guts to utter such a phrase. However, Democrats being who they are, a translation is needed. The use of the definite article before the subject is where the sleight of hand takes place. When Obama says, “The wealth” he doesn’t mean The wealth. He means Your wealth. There’s no such thing as The wealth, as if money is just sitting around in piles, waiting for Big Oil, or Big Pharmaceutical to come and scoop it up and dump it into their buckets. All wealth is owned by someone, and it’s not the government.
So to get very specific, when Obama uses that phrase, what he really means is, “Take your money you worked for, and give it to whomever the government feels should have it.”
And finally, “The right thing to do.” In my opinion, this is the most egregious deception of them all. Not only does it hijack ethics for nefarious use, it insults our intelligence while doing so. It presumes that their moral arbitration is universal, immutable, DIVINE! So much so that they need not even defend it or even support it. After all, everyone knows confiscating the people’s hard-earned income for state use, ripping the Ten Commandments from schoolhouse walls, and killing babies is morally righteous.
According to the left, it was the right thing to do to starve Terri Schiavo to death. It was the right thing to do to ban prayer in school, it was the right thing to do to make it a law that people have to buy health insurance. And, according to the Left, it’s the right thing to do to give 4.1 million babies every year a sentence of death at the whim of their mothers.
Democrat Senator Tom Harkin calls abortion “elegant.”
There’s a divide in this country. And indeed, it is one of what is the right thing to do. The question is, who’s right thing to do will we follow?
It’s not a question of following He who shines light, or He who brings calamity. They are both One and the same. The real question is, can you see The Light or are your eyes blinded?
Open your eyes. Look at the Darkness. Step into The Light.
