PICKET: Poll – Romney seen as more ‘mainstream’ than Obama

Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney is seen as more ‘mainstream’ than President Barack Obama according to a Rasmussen poll posted on Sunday morning:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds that 52% say it’s more accurate to describe the putative Republican nominee’s views as mainstream, while 30% regard them as extreme. Eighteen percent (18%) are undecided.

When it comes to the president’s political views, 45% of voters say they’re in the mainstream, but an identical 45% say it’s more accurate to describe them as extreme.

This same poll, however, showed that voters are equally divided over whether or not they would consider Mr. Obama’s politics “mainstream or extreme.” Rasmussen’s Daily Presidential tracking poll for Sunday shows Mitt Romney with 48 percent of the of the vote with Obama four points behind at 44 percent.

These numbers come on the heels of a rough week for President Obama. The latest jobs numbers showed a rise in the unemployment rate and a plunge in the stock market. These trends do not bode well for  the case Democrats are making for President Obama or his re-election. Should Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker survive this union pushed recall election of his seat, which seems to be the case at this point, it will be another blow to Democratic efforts in November.
