IRS letter: Rumors of Nikki Haley federal indictment untrue

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley was never the subject of an Internal Revenue Service investigation into a worship center her family helps run, according to a letter released by the agency Friday.

Haley’s office says the letter is proof that the “totally contrived” rumors that spread across the Internet this week that Haley could be indicted in federal court over the issue are “totally false.”

“As we said from the very beginning, there was not an ounce of truth to any of these accusations — they were totally contrived, totally false, and and unaccountable bloggers,” said Rob Godfrey, a spokesman for Haley.

After outlets — including The Daily Caller — reported on the indictment rumors that surfaced on a South Carolina blog this week, Godfrey told TheDC that there’s “no truth to this whatsoever — it’s as real as the tooth fairy.”

“It’s incredibly frustrating when unaccountable bloggers will take money to smear trash about somebody, and the mainstream media will pick it up and run with it,” Haley said.

The governor did not say who she thinks pays the bloggers.

Haley’s parents are leaders with the religious society, which is based in Chapin.

Haley, who is Indian-American, was raised a Sikh but converted to Christianity 15 years ago.

A spokesman for the governor said the letter released Friday represented the closure of the IRS inquiry that the blogger, Palmetto Public Record editor Logan Smith, posted initial documents about.

The governor’s office requested the IRS letter released Friday after facing a barrage of questions about Smith’s report.

Even So Agenda driven South Carolina Blogs are still beating the drum.

As reports of “imminent” indictments continue to swirl around the S.C. State House, Gov. Nikki Haley is denying any connection to an Internal Revenue Service probe of the Sikh Temple run by her father, Ajit S. Randhawa. Specifically, Haley is refuting allegations that she ran the books for the organization, which has been accused of all manner of financial irregularities.

“It is flat out not true,” Haley told The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper on Thursday. “I have never kept their books. I’ve never made deposits. I never signed checks. I never did financial statements.”

Really? That’s not what we’ve heard …
