Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the House Budget Committee chairman and conservative star, will throw his support behind the GOP frontrunner, reports indicate. In a move that underscores both the consolidation behind Gov. Romney and the growing desperation of the flailing Santorum campaign, the former senator’s team leaked the contents of a courtesy call made by the Wisconsin representative to Santorum informing him of his pending Romney endorsement.
Despite the desperation of the Santorum team, the consolidation of conservative superstars like Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan behind Gov. Romney’s candidacy continue to show that the race is unequivocally over.
Paul Ryan’s camp called Rick Santorum to alert him to a pending endorsement of Mitt Romney, and the former senator’s team then shared that courtesy call with Rosie Gray, stealing at least a bit of the frontrunner’s thunder on the rollout.
The endorsement from Ryan, whose budget plan passed the House today and who has been praising of Romney’s own economic plan in recent months, comes in advance of the primary of his Wisconsin home state on Tuesday.
