Giffords Aide Ron Barber to Run for Her Seat

Ron Barber, a top aide to former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D., Ariz.) who was wounded at the same event where the congresswoman was shot a year ago, announced Thursday he’s running to take her place.

President Obama greeted Representative Gabrielle Giffords before his State of the Union address Tuesday evening.

Ms. Giffords resigned last month after a year of recuperating from being shot in the head during a constituent event. Mr. Barber, who was her district director, kicked off his campaign for the June 12 special election with an enormous asset: the support of Ms. Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly.
