Black conservatives set the record straight – by Alicia Powe

It’s high time that African Americans break free of the pervasive liberal propaganda that brainwashed them into thinking the party of Abraham Lincoln is anti-black, say several prominent black conservatives.

“I was always a conservative because those are the values that I was taught, but I thought I was a Democrat because I was black and I had to be,” said Andre Harper, author of Political Emancipation: Observations of a Black Man Who Rejected Liberal Indoctrination. “I said I would never be a Republican because I bought into the notion that Republicans hated blacks and were the party of slavery.”

The black community is inherently conservative, Harper believes. “Hip-hop clearly is the most capitalistic entertainment genre. Nothing about the left says ‘I am going to put $80,000 worth of jewelry in my mouth.’ That’s capitalism.”

Former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele believes Republicans have done a poor job fighting back against Democrats’ never-ending slurs.

“If I called you a racist every day for 30 days, and you said nothing, how would you defeat that propaganda?” Steele asked rhetorically. “The fact is we know it is not true for the GOP but who has been the advocate to push back on that?”

The Democratic Party has been aligned against black Americans for more than a century and a half. Every single piece of civil rights legislation for blacks in Americans history is the result of Republican activism, including the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments, and all of the Reconstruction and Civil Rights Acts.
