Dan Quayle to Endorse Romney

Quayle says Romney is “the most credible candidate in the race,” will officially endorse tomorrow during Romney’s trip to Arizona:

Former Vice President Dan Quayle is endorsing Mitt Romney for president.

Republican officials on Monday told The Associated Press that Quayle plans to announce his support for the former Massachusetts governor Tuesday afternoon.

The endorsement will take place in Paradise Valley, Arizona, which is located within the congressional district of Ben Quayle, the former Vice President’s son, who was elected to the House in 2010 and has yet to make an endorsement in the presidential race.

The immediate reaction from a sample of Beltway Twitter-types was just reflexive jokes. But maybe that’s not the purpose of the endorsement: Quayle has a home in Arizona, the AP informs, and his son, Ben Quayle also represents the state in Congress.
