AZ Court reverses Gov Brewer removal of Redistricting Commission official

The Arizona Supreme Court Thursday evening reinstated the chairwoman of the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission, rebuffing Gov. Jan Brewer¹s unprecedented action earlier this month.

The ruling came less than three hours after the court heard arguments on the case, which revolved around the extent to which the commission is free of outside political interference.

That is exactly what happened this year with the current Commission.

So-called ‘Independent’ Chairwoman Colleen Mathis partnered with the two Democrats on the commission in what appears to have been back room dealings, to award the drawing of Arizona’s electoral maps to a consulting firm called Strategic Telemetry. That firm which worked for President Obama and on recall efforts against Republicans in Wisconsin, has a reputation of specializing in micro-analysis of voter behavior at the precinct level.
