Faster then you can say, “Goodbye Gaddafi”. The Interm leader of Libya, Mustafa Abdul-Jalilm says he will implement components of Sharia Law. Not only did we warn our readers of this possibility, we also related that anti-aircraft weapons were leaving Libya at at Alarming rate. These same rebels fought against American and Canadian soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. And to top the “we told you so” list we said that Egypt would be over run by the Muslim Brotherhood and stability would be only a dream. But each day we heard from the Obama Adminstartion, “move along, nothing to see here”.
We say, claiming victory in Libya is not a victory at all. The internet is beginning to take bets on when America will be “liberating” Libya again
Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, the chairman of the National Transitional Council and de fact president, had already declared that Libyan laws in future would have Sharia, the Islamic code, as its “basic source”.
But that formulation can be interpreted in many ways – it was also the basis of Egypt’s largely secular constitution under President Hosni Mubarak, and remains so after his fall.
Mr Abdul-Jalil went further, specifically lifting immediately, by decree, one law from Col. Gaddafi’s era that he said was in conflict with Sharia – that banning polygamy.
Transitional Leader Calls For Sharia Law As Country Celebrates Liberation
Abdul-Jalil set out a vision for the post-Qaddafi future with an Islamist tint, saying that Islamic Sharia law would be the “basic source” of legislation in the country and that existing laws that contradict the teachings of Islam would be nullified.
In a gesture that showed his own piety, he urged Libyans not to express their joy by firing in the air, but rather to chant “Allahu Akbar,” or God is Great. He then stepped aside and knelt to offer a brief prayer of thanks.
The autopsy, carried out secretly, was done in a morgue, Reuters reported. The body is expected to go back to the commercial freezer in a Misrata shopping mall where it has been on public display.
The United Nations is investigating Khadafy’s death. Meanwhile, most Libyans do not appear to be mourning his demise.
“If [Khadafy] was taken to court, this would create more chaos, and would encourage his supporters,” Salah Zlitni, 31, who owns a pizza parlor in downtown Tripoli, told The Associated Press. “Now it’s over.”
President Obama doesn’t seem to be bothered by the thought of a new Islamic state in Northern Africa.
President Barack Obama congratulated Libyans on the declaration.
Surprise!… Libya to Introduce Radical Islamic Law
In a blow to those who hoped to see Libya’s economy integrate further into the western world, he announced that in future bank regulations would ban the charging of interest, in line with Sharia. “Interest creates disease and hatred among people,” he said.
Gulf states like the United Arab Emirates, and other Muslim countries, have pioneered the development of Sharia-compliant banks which charge fees rather than interest for loans but they normally run alongside western-style banks…
…Libya is already the most conservative state in north Africa, banning the sale of alcohol. Mr Abdul-Jalil’s decision – made in advance of the introduction of any democratic process – will please the Islamists who have played a strong role in opposition to Col Gaddafi’s rule and in the uprising but worry the many young liberal Libyans who, while usually observant Muslims, take their political cues from the West.
