New York 9th District Special Election – Turner (R) Beating Weprin (D) in all Major Polls

By Albert N. Milliron

The Special Election that is to replace the Resigned Democrat Congressman Anthony Weiner looks like it may flip to the GOP.  After all the Media attention to the Last New York Congressional election  on the implications of the race and what it meant to the 2012 election was widespread and exaggerated.

From our position, we see the last and this election as nothing more than an unhappy electorate replacing a Congressman with the opposing party as a message that Americans are tired of amoral and lazy politicians.  While Congressman Weiner was anything but lazy, his cocky attitude as a servant of the people is not being tolerated anymore.

So when the votes are all counted we expect that the Republican Turner will win by between 3-6 points.

Republican Last Won N.Y.’s Ninth District in 1920

For decades, winning the Democratic nomination in New York’s Ninth Congressional District has been tantamount to election.

But in Tuesday’s election, the Republican candidate, Bob Turner, may very well pull off an upset, if recent polls are any guide.

He would become the first Republican to carry the district since 1920, when Andrew N. Petersen, a Danish-born manufacturer of ornamental iron products, toppled freshman Representative David J. O’Connell.

  1. I wanted to tell you that even though the media is reporting that there has not been a Republican elected in Weiner’s district in 80 years, please know that my Uncle, Seymour Halpern represented the Queens area of that district from 1960-74 as a Republican. He also was on the liberal ticket and sometimes ran unopposed. He would likely not be a Republican today if he was alive…

  3. americans who only casually followed politics have been forced to investigate things and become familar with how governemnt works and just who the people representing us really are. in the past we pretty much accepted that there would be different point of views from opposing party members but we rarely expected so much dishonesty mong highly ranked politicans.

it happened in the past, but it was rare. now it’s become almost the norm and grassroots americans are now putting their foot down. simply put you just may get elected but if you begin to go against why you were elected you will be a one-termer in no uncertain terms.

what we are seeing is real americans being America.
    Thank goodness for that.

  7. Last time I looked it was Republican’t governors who were trying to pass laws to disenfranchise minority voters.    You people really don’t want Americans to vote.  Too bad so many people died to insure we continue to HAVE that right.  But you Republican’ts are such patriots that a little thing like voter suppression never bothers you.  Does Diebold provide voting machines for the state of New York or will the votes be counted honestly this time?

  10. I can’t believe that the dems would let the people of N.Y. express their FREE WILL and vote in a republican. Tomorrow comes all the stories, probably from one news org. only, about all the shennanigans that occurred during the voting!

  11. While it may be said that this is a referendum on Obama’s policies I believe there is a great deal more to it. The electorate are tired of our politicians not listening to us. We call, we e-mail and still they go to Washington and blatently vote for what they want rather than what their constituients are telling them. 2010 started a wave and 2012 will be a disaster to the democrats but it may very well prove to be a disaster to career republican politicians as well. It is not the name democrat or republican we are upset about it is the fact Washington no longer chooses to listen to the very people who put them in office. It appears that once they win it is once again business as usual. Obama is a good example. Where is his hope and change? Once he won he began to do the very things he campaigned against. Increasing our deficit, going to war with Libya, taking care of his union buddies and special interests. He is just like so many of the other career politicians they are disengenous.

  12. It’ll be a miracle if the demcrat machine lets this go down, that is, let the people of N.Y. express their votes for the Republican. I can’t see the “thugs” allowing it to happen!

  13. This really is a meaningless election.   There was no reason for Weiner to step down. The GOP wasn’t asking him to resign, just the Democrats.   The Democrats told him to resign or he would be redistricted out. Either way he would have been out of office, so what was the point?

What’s at stake here?  The winner gets a 15 month appointment that will pay About $250,000 for the 15 months  and Ted Kennedy level health care for life.

If Turner wins, it wouldn’t matter to him, As a Television producer, $250,000 is probably what he spends on shoe polish. But Weprin, oh ho.. he’s hit the big time.  15 months in Washington and he’s set for life, As a Democrat, that’s his birthright to sponge off the taxpayers his entire live, cos he’s o’ed it.

If Turner wins, you can guarantee that this district will be eliminated, as the Dems in Washington will be glad to kick a Republican out of the House, BUT When the new districts are drawn, Turner’s current residence would be located in a new redrawn district and he would be allowed to run for Congress in that district as an incumbent Republican Congressman running against an incumbent Democrat Congressman.

If NT-9 is split up between say 4 other surrounding districts, then the conservative-ish element that would elect Turner, would be split up among the other districts and may serve to dilute the Liberalness of the other districts and may even cause some of them to turn Red in 2012.
