The Drudge Report Drives More Traffic to News sites than Twitter or Facebook

You go get’em Matt! All these years the Mainstream media called you an outlier who would never amount to real news acceptance by internet users.  What? I am hearing an old sixties song in my ears.. is that? Yes it is!  ‘The times they are a changing” now if I start hearing, Everyone must get stoned” I am going to see a doctor!

From PBS NewsHour

The Drudge Report outranks social media when it comes to driving news traffic to top Web sites, according to a new study from the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism. In a comprehensive examination of online traffic data provided by Nielsen, Pew found that only “three sites ever account for more than 10 percent of the traffic to any [major news Web site]: Google (search and news combined), the Drudge Report and Yahoo (search and news combined).”

The chart below plots referral traffic to top news brands from the Drudge Report, Facebook and Twitter.

But referral clout is not just a question of user numbers. The Drudge Report, a veteran news aggregation site, was the second or third ranked referral site to more than half of the sites studied. For example, the Drudge Report provided more than 30% of traffic to British newspaper The Daily Mail, 19% of traffic to the New York Post, 15% to The Washington Post, and 11% to the Boston Globe.
